I was wondering what everyone does work wise (nosey tart aye!)
Main reason I ask is that it appears alot of people here are in the automotive industry in one way, shape or form.

I work for a Vehicle Leasing Company, running a Maintenance department (as such)....it's lotsa fun sometimes, when I get time to help the team with answering phones and issuing work authorisations (I was a maintenance controller for 3 years), I get to play games with the week and febble minded which amuses me no end....

I had a guy from an unnamed Ford Dealership on the phone yesterday who wanted to justify labour time by trying to tell me how hard and labour intensive it was to strip down and adjust the handbrake on a BA Falcon (talking to me asuming that cause I'm a chick I will know less than him about cars).

I'm like, "they're self adjusting mate" ,making it sound all didn't ya know .....
And the idiot goes, "no they're not......are they??

Needless to say stifarms tells me off.....

Anyway enough about me.....

I have been working with cars for 10 odd years (and yes, some of them were odd!) and sometimes wonder what I might do next when I get sick of Groundhog day....Holding up a desk at a Bike dealership sounds pretty cool....

adjust the handbrake on a BA Falcon .....

The seperate handbrake shoes on a BA Falcon are not selfadjusting and they are a pain in the arse to set up,you have to buy the very expensive shoes to get the little clips that stop them making a lot of noise.

I fix cars for a living.....and get pissed off having to justify the time it takes to fix them.....like,why don't you do it yourself if you don't like the price?....

Well, I would go back and work on cars, but it doesn't pay enough, my hands would get dirty, and I there would be a ratio of about 1:10 qualified to apprenticed tech's....so that's why I don't.

I wasn't bitching at you bitch,I was bitching about my customers - we have just finished fitting a $5 seal to the injector pump on a 4M40 in a Pajero...at 8 hrs charged I am losing heavily on the labour, and the customer is bleating and moaning - I'd like to charge more, but the flat rate is 2hrs for R & I,a trip to the small claims court would see me halve my hours.I'd like to see some one R & I one of these in 2 hrs! It's about time tradesmen in this country started charging like lawyers - waste my time and then charge for the privalige.

One qualified mech to 10 apprentices, that's bloody good,a few years ago apprentices had disapeared - no one wanted to train for a job with low pay where you get dirty and abused.

Worked for a diesel company a few years ago. Had a chain of diesel injector and turbo shops, with mechanics. Universally accepted as best mechanic was a girl (sexy chick, too). She had the respect, she earned it. Never a problem.

Way ahead of you mate. Triumphs tend to run in the family. My grandpa used to race them in the desert in so-cal and so did my dad. Been kinda partial to them myself though I lean more twords the new generation of them. Rocket III and the Daytona series.
