1977 I had a CB450 and a beige EH Holden wagon. Cars were only just getting cassette decks as standard and FM radio was some ways off. I rigged a portable cassette deck to run 12V in the glove box of the EH and powered some household speaker boxes in the back. It rocked in a tape hiss kinda way.
Then some bastard smashed a 1/4 window and stole all my Bowie cassettes from outside the Fairfax press building.
That's all I have to say about that.

Here is my Fav' song from that Album and probably my fav abba song if I were to be honest, I just got that Dum Dum Diddle song..:corn:
I remember walking the streets of Tga with mates an Otara Brief case listening to Bat out of Hell, that talking bit before 'You took the Words right out my Mouth' was different.

I had a live Stranglers record called "Live X Certificate" which I liked. And Stiff Little Fingers "Hanx" (both seem to be unavailable on CD).
My first album ever was the Beatles "Red" album (the greatest hits 1962 -1966) which my dear departed Mum bought for me (she was a Beatles fan too). Then Hotel California by the Eagles (I still like it, and a few of their other songs, and I dont care how naff they are). Then a bunch of glam rock (Bowie mainly), then metal (Zeppelin, Sabbath) then punk.
I still have the Beatles record.

Someone else bought "Relics" too? When I was doing the apprenticeship there was a big ol' valve radio in the workshop. Was working late one night and "Interstellar Overdrive" came on. Its got Arnold Layne on it as well if I remember.
One of my mates left school and became a printers apprentice. He got $50 in his first week, and paid his mum $20 board, and of the $30 left over he bought three records in one week. We were all so jealous. We could only afford like one record every three weeks.
and remember that feeling when you dropped a decent chunk of money on an LP, got it home and it sucked? so disappointing. Dont have that commitment these days...

The cover is a line drawing of a weird Heath Robinson type machine drawn by Nick Mason. dated 1967.

Funny I was thinking that as I opened this thread, only because I just started ripping vinyl last night. If you still have a turntable of any reasonable quality, just buy an analogue-digital interface and down load Audacity. I looked at the turntables and then checked them out on forums. They are pretty much useless until you start spending serious coin on them. With the interface you can plug virtually any device into the back of them, tape, vinyl, 8 track etc. When you are done you can onsell and will only cost you <$200
There waqs a guy on TM selling a record collection of 160 albums and he's wanting $3500! Fuck me, I still have 130 odd and access to shitloads more.

I tried a while ago using an analog turntable into a regular amp, then taking output from there to the PC, using Cool Edit pro to clean up the ticks and pops. Trouble was, by the time the recording was ok, I was pretty sick of that album. However the PC I was using back then was pretty mediocre, took about an hour to filter a track.
Cool Edit doesnt exist any more, would Audacity do a better job?
Laava
3rd February 2011, 20:20
Tracks record at normal playing speed then you need about 10-15min to patch thru to your final save destination [My Music] as mp3.
You just record the whole album as 1 file and then, as it is in graph form, just highlight the track, name and save it.
1st one you save prompts you to down load 'Lame-dll for audacity' which is the mp3 converter and takes about 10sec to download. I couldn't have told you that 2 nights ago!
Is simple as even I can do it.

I am by no means a die-hard fan, but I do love a couple of their albums.
Basically there are two pretty different bands: pre-Syd and post Syd. (three if you call it Floyd after Gilmour left).
the earlier stuff is the real psychedelia/prog rock, the later stuff is massive stadium art show. both can be good, but very different.
FWIW my favourite Floyd song is Wish you were here. Unfashionably, the verion on Pulse.

You mean this?
