:gob:I went to my first track day yesterday and had a blast! What struck me most was 160 riders and less than 10 would have been women and it got me to wondering why? Do we think that they are all boy racers out to test the limits of their machine and their own abilities? Wasn't why I was there. Hell I already know the limit of my bike, 120 kph in a head wind!! Yep, still on an L plate and riding a 250cc. And every time I go out it is a test of my skills. I went because I had the chance to practise riding skills in a controlled way. No on coming traffic, as much of the road as I needed to get around those corners. It is a great opportunity to improve skills without having to worry about other things on the road.
Yes, many of those 160 riders were boys out to go as fast as they could but you don't ride with them unless you want to as there are Slow, Medium, Fast and Race classes so that you fit into where you are comfortable. I sat happily at the back of the Slow riders! Which aside from few women was interesting as there were no other learners (unless their L plate has 'fallen off' as mine has) but the speed of the next slowest rider and size of the bikes indicated that learners don't take advantage of this opportunity either.

One of the best 50 bucks I have spent

Don't know where ya live Houseman but at Manfield with Central Districts Club. They have their next one over Easter

Yep, most of the women that were there were Fast or Race classed St8Jacket. Which lead me to further think that most women are scared by the thought of bein' out there

What would the ratio of male to female riders overall be? 1:16 doesn't sound too far off to me.

If there was one close to me I'd be there most weekends...but the closest is CHCH and to organise the care of the children and the dosh to pay for it ... well, I've not got there yet, but watch this space. I'd love to race but .... that too will wait. bloody bum fcku and shit, why did I get married and have children?????

Good on you for getting out there and doing it, do it again and again! Then go do it for me!

Attend any Race Meeting at Manfield and see for yourself how many woman there are out there who Race and of all different ages also, You'll be surprised of the numbers.
Who knows maybe 1 day you could be out there making the numbers even bigger. So why not give it a go regardless of whether you continue on with it or not at least you have had a go of it and then know what its like to be out there among the rest of them. Much safer than on the road amongst the cagers.

GO MIHI!!! That a girl - great to see you are now out there showing us all how it's done. Can't wait to watch you out there. :not:

I myself am absolutely itching to do a track day, but still have the wrong bike. The day I get something more suitable I'll be booking into the first one available. Damn it looks like fun watching all you ladies out there. Much more fun than on the side line.
