currenty rebuilding a DT175 i got for 100bux, in the process of taking the engine apart i found that some clever bastard welded the gear leaver onto the gear shift shaft..after hacksawing it off i rang yamaha and was told the leaver and shaft would set me back roughly $140, anybody out there have one of these shift shafts lying around that they dont want an arm and leg for? never hurts to ask right? also, would a newer model shaft fit? theres a guy wrecking a 95 engine on TM...

Go to your dealer and get the part number, while there ask if the same part is used in similar model years YZ and/or IT bikes as well.
Yamaha in the 70's and 80's were well known for using MX bottom ends for a lot of there trail/enduro models.
If the gear lever shaft is common across these models then the wrecker industry is your friend.

Did you find a shaft?

I might have one, its still in the engine in storage. I can look and see if the nasty electric glue hasnt been used on it as well

ake the shaft out, and count the teeth, measure the diameter, and the length, then do a google and find out how many other bikes have an idenical shaft. you might find you can get a slightly longer one and chop it down or something.

yea i found one out south for $30 with a gear leaver, score!!

@rdJase do you have the carb? mines rooted and im slack and would happily pay a reasonable price for another one then try fix it part by part.
