So I'm the proud owner of a yammy R6! I paid for most of it out of my own pocket but need to get finance for a couple of grand. No beef to the fianance company they were really good, they even recommended a good insurance company - State.
So i gave state a call, jump through all the right hoops and got a quote - $1500 per year! i mean WTF! :weird:
So who do you recommend and how much should i be looking at?

People speak highly of Kiwibike.
If you are over 30, give Classic Cover in Hamilton a call.

yeah, don't go through a "household" insurance company. They know fuck all about bikes.
Try Kiwibike for a quote, they almost halved my premiums from previous co. Vero

Agree , go to Kiwibike motorcycle insurance , they are brokers for a number of companys , currently the best of those seems to be Protecta , Jenna or Donna will give you the best , I have been with them for years and they are great, no hassle , and excess is normally around $250 with roadside assist , have saved my mates up to 350 bucks by putting them onto them, after been ripped off by the likes of State and NZI etc.

Wow Kiwibike is heaps cheaper!
Thanks for the help guys!

+1 from me for NAC, they were by far the cheapest, plus they have been friendly on the phone, and offer 24 hour roadside assistance.
Haven't had to lodge a claim though...that's when all insurance companies get dodgy...

State are fucking skewed when it comes to motorcycles. The ZX-14 is $38 a month, the Hornet 900 was $36 a month... the VFR800 skyrocketed to $105 a month - I called them and managed to get it down to $80 a month but even that is ridiculous.
I had a quote from Kiwibike at a good deal cheaper + gear + track days, all I need to do is remember to call them!

I'm with Star Insurance and they are brilliant.

They are not the cheapest but still reasonable and they cover me for the track at no extra cost.
And the track is where an R6 belongs!!!

That sounds fine to me - State took about 3 months when my car got broken into. And they asked me "Do you want to be able to use the same key for the ignition and the driver's door?". I was too stunned to say anything.

I'm tired of this attitude. It shows a lack of regard for other users - the ones that may have to incur an expense from mistakes that you make. The road is a shared medium, and your accidents often don't just impact your wallet.
ps. Full motorcycle insurance is sometimes cheaper than third party motorcycle insurance.

No way anyone is insuring a bike at $144 pa.

Mine's with NAC and it is $12.64 per month so $151 per year for comprehensive insurance. Granted, it's a 250 and only worth about $2500...but still, NAC was much cheaper than other places.

Kiwibike has come through for me again. Was told by another broker (not naming, but well known here) that they have the best quotes. Kiwibike was $40 cheaper.
Now, I'm not playing them against each other for $40 (Insurance is just over $1500), but since I'm already with Kiwibike... no brainer huh?

No, but i cant see may people forking out for a new merc, porsche or lambo if they hit it.
TBH compulsary insurance would be great for the public and bike community as a whole.

I do have 3rd party and did have full for ages. Now I only ride the bike on weekends, so its not worth it. Screw you and your holier than thou attitude. Fucking jerk-off. As for full being cheaper than 3rd, what fucking planet are you on kunt?

Didn't bother claiming for them...

I'm with Protecta. $20 per month, comprehensive full cover on the Boulevard including 24/7 Roadside Assist.
I tried State, AMI and the local Suzuki dealer but all were at least twice the price of Protecta.
Protecta even insured the bike while it was in transit with BikeTranz.

I had a look at this a while ago Mstrs. There were a lot of catches (at least in my case). I was only insured overnight if my bike was stored in a locked garage (and at the time I was away from home on my bike about 4 or 5 days a fortnight, so that ruled it out for me). There was no track over option. Some other restrictions as well I can no longer remember.
It's the old adage - you get what you pay for.

You some up your attitude to other road users nicely don't you. It's all about you. I really hope things go well for you, because I feel for the other person who will have their life disrupted if you have an accident and right their vehicle off.
Perhaps your praying may help. Don't know.
Why don't you search this site? It has come up many times before. A lot of insurance companies do not want to provide third party motorcycle insurance, so they make it more expensive than full cover. But I'm guessing you've never even asked the question.
And I mention it, because some people go for the third party option not realising than can get a cheaper deal with more cover by going to full.

Merc/Porsche/Lambo drivers have nothing to fear in any case, they'll probably be lease vehicles and nicely insured.

There seems to be conflicting info here: which was it, a good insurance company or State - it can't be both!

For insurance companies who cover track days....it is classed as a track day though more as a training day so you should get a reduced excess.
For myself with Star I have a $2k excess for track days and $1k excess for Honda Ride Days or California Superbike School.

I have and in my particular case, nothing short of brilliant. I was in a position to help with the claim (repair parts/organise replacement options etc), which they gladly accepted. In return, they bent over backwards to sort the claim, accepted my advice and even waived my excess.
I just wish NAC covered riding gear at the time, cause the separate contents claim with AMI was a nightmare.
