We all know Coca Cola's Coke has tonnes of sugar. But how about Diet Coke or Coke Zero? The label at the back says 250ml = 3.7kj energy. That's what.... less than milk?
It's got 0 sugar.
It's got 0 fat.
It's got 0 calories
It's got 0 almost everything on the label.
What's the catch? My question is, will it make me fat? And what the hell is that Philomenimeninenimeneinm? Is that bad?

From the Mayo clinic
from Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., L.D.
Phenylalanine is an essential amino acid, so you need it in your diet. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein.
Phenylalanine is found in protein-rich foods, such as milk, cheese, nuts, seeds, poultry and fish. It's also found in diet foods, such as diet soda, which contains aspartame.
Phenylalanine isn't a problem for most people. Diet sodas contain a warning about phenylalanine because it can pose a risk to people who have phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU is a rare condition in which the body cannot process phenylalanine. If you don't have PKU, don't worry about phenylalanine in your diet soda.
For infants and children with this disorder, consuming phenylalanine is dangerous. If you're an adult with this disorder, consult your doctor regarding whether phenylalanine is a concern

Fruit juice is way better, but if you want something for a bourbon, natural and healthy colas like phoenix are available.
Hell, just buy some cola nut, grind, put that in some caps with guarana and ginkgo biloba. Some dried sheep adrenal glands could put a real edge to that too. Hmmm

This applies to all soft drinks with these ingredients:
Phosphoric acid (rust remover ingredient) commonly made from the the mould of scrap molasses is linked with lower bone density and kidney stones/chronic disease.
Sodium Benzoate (used in Silver Polish) breaks down into the carcinogen Benzene (unleaded petrol additive). In response to consumer insistence on a more natural product and Sodium Benzoate's links to DNA damage (read Parkinsons, early aging effects, neurodengenerative disorders, cell death in general) and ADHD, the Coca Cola Company is in the process of phasing Sodium Benzoate out of Diet Coke. The company has stated that it plans to remove E211 from its other products — including Sprite, Fanta, and Oasis — as soon as a satisfactory (read cheap) alternative is discovered.
Aspartame (used in medicine as a heavy duty laxative) controversial at this time. But no real proof of health danger in small doses....yet. Worth noting that it does break down into Formaldehyde in the human body.
Caffeine has both positive and negative effects on the body. Dependant on individual reactions. Worse negative effects are addiction, headaches, stomach/intestinal irritation, insomnia, bone density loss. Healthiest effects occur in it's natural state (coffee, cocoa).

In all honesty EJ, I used to drink 2 bottles of Bundyburg Ginger beer everyday. That stuff has got to contain the highest amount of sugar of any fizzy drink?... Dr said I had to loose a couple of KG's and cut back on my sugar intake to avoid that Diabetic thing. So I switched to Coke Zero because I still need coke something for my rum right?...I dont drink alcohol that often now. Its something else I have basically cut from my diet. The odd beer here and there.
Coke Zero is the closest thing to real coke. I have no issue with drinking it and no issue with adding it to my Appletons when required. I have also switched to equal as a sugar supplement for my coffee. The best thing about it all is.... I have dropped 10kgs since cutting back on my sugar intake.

Not to mention, tests have shown fruit juice to be worse for your teeth. Yep, really.
Mate Coke Zero Is not good for you, but it's an awesome alternative to sugar drinks. I drink plenty of it.
Also, don't worry about the fructose you get from fruit. The sugar in fruit juice is heavy loading and bad, but I lost 30kg eating as much fruit as I liked, so, for those people that think that fruit is bad because of the sugar and tell other people that, slap yourself in the nut and get your facts straight. Oh yeah, not that I believed it anyway, but I am of the blood type where the books say not to eat much fruit.
Fruit is fine, eat it as you please. Coke Zero is ok, but definitely NOT healthy!
Caffeine has both positive and negative effects on the body. Dependant on individual reactions. Worse negative effects are addiction, headaches, stomach/intestinal irritation, insomnia, bone density loss. Healthiest effects occur in it's natural state (coffee, cocoa).

it has a fowl after taste, its toxic especially if warmed or past its date, and while it on its own does not make you fat it will make your body absorb more fat from anything you do consume that has a fat content.
If its any consultation to ya the companies that make that toxic crap to replace sugar have a habit of starting up & closing down every few years, rumor is this is because its quite hard to sue a company that doesn't exist.

The only proven link here is between people consuming diet soda and gaining weight, what they don't tell you is that it is because people that drink diet soda are having that as part of a quarter pack. It's a favourite scare-mongering technique by the fun-police.

The only proven link here is between people consuming diet soda and gaining weight, what they don't tell you is that it is because people that drink diet soda are having that as part of a quarter pack. It's a favourite scare-mongering technique by the fun-police.
A 2005 study by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio showed that increased weight gain and obesity was associated with increased use of diet soda in a population based study. The study did not establish whether increased weight leads to increased consumption of diet drinks or whether consumption of diet drinks could have an effect on weight gain.[14]
Animal studies have indicated that artificial sweeteners can cause body weight gain. A sweet taste induces an insulin response,[citation needed] which causes blood sugar to be stored in tissues (including fat), but because blood sugar does not increase with artificial sugars, there is hypoglycemia and increased food intake the next time there is a meal. After a while, rats given sweeteners have steadily increased calorie intake, increased body weight, and increased adiposity (fatness). Furthermore, the natural responses to eating sugary foods (eating less at the next meal and using some of the extra calories to warm the body after the sugary meal) are gradually lost
Pffft, you do realise that if what you were saying was remotely true, the CEOs etc would still be accountable, company still in existance of not. Whoever told you that conspiracy theory sucked you right in......

Water is boring. You don't want boring life, do you? Nah just kidding. I've been drinking coke zero quite a sum lately and the amount of sugar has reached to the point of my curiosity (and the chart label at the back got me thinking).

I remember reading of a woman, who chewed a packet of sugarfree gum a day, whose health started to deteriorate gradually. She went to her GP who couldn't find anything wrong.
She just got worse, to the point where she began to put her things in order and was preparing to die. She was having blackouts, was collapsing, throwing up, having vision problems etc.
Someone suggested she give up the gum, and within days her health began to improve, and within weeks was back to normal.
As I said earlier Aspartame is a poison! (As is Equal and most other sugar replacements.)

Consumer compiled overseas studies a few years ago which showed how any one sweetener was not healthy, however when certain sweeteners were combined they had a multiple sweetening effect reducing the amount needed for the desired effect.
Anything can be dangerous to your health in sufficient quantity however modeate intake can be no problem, alchohol included.
I drink Coke Zero & use Equal tablets in tea & coffee and use Equal powder on cereals etc as a matter of having to (diabetes type 2) and to satisfy my sweet tounge.

Sugar is a natural product. Your body has evolved to use it, but when we were all wandering about the plains of Africa leading lives of nasty, brutish shortness, the chance find of honey, or sweet berries was a huge bonus: so we equate sweetness with pleasure and desirability. in our society of plenty, it is very easy for anyone to overindulge in that "Sometimes" food, and your body goes "Well, I can't use that right now, I'll store it for later".
So, the answer is pretty obvious, innit?
wanting your (wait for it) cake and eating it too is a human characteristic. But so is willpower.

Any chance you want to join the court action against the manufacturers of Aspartame?, After trawling through numerous shadow companies it was discovered it was being produced by the catholic church, which as everyone knows is really a front for the order of the Illuminati, which those in the know, know is headed by Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama.

Coke zero is so named because is contains zero cocaine (she don't lie you know). It also contains a small, agile japanese WWII fighter (the zero) and a hit song by Jenny Morris.

Being serious,
The best thing you can do is fit a water filter tap to your kitchen. For you and your family.
The kids now drink more water, I even drink hot water as a coffee replacement at night and I also drink more water during the day.
Simply because council supplied water is awful to drink. I don't blame people replacing it with bottled / sugary stuff. When you have a much nicer tasting water replacement, you'll find your desire to drink coke and other products (without all the chlorine diminishes), since your water is now pure(r).
