Well guys, after coming down in size but not speed from a 996 to the 06 ZX6R... got a delightful surprise after the fuel economy testing!
4.4L/100km (53mpg, 22km litre) with mostly 100kmh cruising but also overtaking, occasional fun hard acceleration and a bit of town riding. I believe it could better with a constant 80kmh cruise as this is the most efficient speed. If you're wondering... was measured with google maps to verify odo accuracy/bike trip counter and filling up as soon as a steady fuel light came on with a level surface- twice.
Not what you bother to know about riding a 10 second quarter mile bike but I was thoroughly impressed!
What fuel consumption do you get with what bike?

Haven't been down the strip yet... been practicing launches for meremere but late 10 is my goal! Wish me luck!
Plenty of vids of stock 636's doing late 10's... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1i_-cw8kDIY here's a n00b rider doing 10.89 first time out with stock wheel base and height. Plenty of shit riders with bad launches doing early 11. I'll be lighter than this guy so I'm hoping I can break a 10 on the night.

Well, with my VTR1000, I used to get a sore arse and pain in my knees and wrists. With the VFR, I get some heat off the rear headers and mid pipe, especially in summer, which makes my right leg hot. Can't remember what I got with the other bikes (too long ago).

Can't say I see the point of talking up the economy of a sports bike.....it's kinda like shagging a pornstar and skiting about only using one condom. It's totally missing the point.

About 23-28 km/l depending on driving style. But it is only a teeny weeny ninja 250.
I was thinking to go to a ZX6R when I get my full. What do you reckon for a second bike?

Yes fuel economy is not the main point of a sports bike, but if you have a pornstar who can cook as well, it's a bonus.

The speed triple ECU lies.
I've found it usually uses 1L over the reported L per 100 KM.
The most economical seems to be 80kph in 5th gear (assuming without pack / shit on the back and an 80Kg rider). It reports 3.3L - but more like 4.3L per 100km.
My average consumption is usually between 5 - 6L reported - which in reality is about 6 - 7L per 100km

I can only say people don't practice beforehand. On an undisclosed location on a very humid day with some mates and an improvised strip I did low 11's after first few pretty average wheelie launches. Maybe people are racing up the face of Ruapehu?

3.02 litres per 100km was the figure for the er6F kawasaki that won the south african fuel economy run.
When I had mine, it regularly ran below 4 litres per 100, but I ride like I intend to outlive my grandchildren.
My Harley is rated at 57mpg US or 66 mpg in our money. Thats around 4.1 litres per hundred clicks. Not bad for a heavy tractor.

To put things in comparison. I did a 12.7 on a modified RG150 on a unofficial dragstrip run.
Took the same bike to Dragwars and all I could get was 14.8
Also another thing to note when drag racing - it timing is not linear to effort/performance.
going from 11 seconds to 10 seconds takes almost twice the effort/performance than getting from 12-to-11 second times.
I have seen people almost double their HP just to get in the 10 sec bracket.

About 7.5l/100km on the XJR13, doing the 200k commute to work - worse if I cane it!
The RG250 is about the same..........
The FZ1 is about 6.2l/100km, with the missus riding keeping below 150 (hoon laws over that - lose bike for 28 days, instant)
The Getz does 7.3l/100km on the work commute......

A mate over here is running consistent mid 9's on a basically stock 02 Hayabusa - standard gearing even. With a 3 inch swing arm extension and std gearing he ran a 9.32 - reckoned he could launch at higher revs - 9 -10,000. - as he said - LOTS of practice
Next step's a turbo......
