Gents (and Ladies),

Sadly, I'm not in NZ yet but hope to be arriving around July time.

I have a dedicated track bike (a year 2000 R6 with a few tweaks) with the query being do I bring her to NZ. I've done some searching but thought it'd be better to get some considered opinions from you lot.

Unfortunately I'm likely to be based in Auckland, which make the Taupo and Manfeild tracks a long treck. Roughly how may events are at Hampton Downs and Pukekohe?

Of course, I could always bring the bike, wheels, tyres and trailer etc anyway and hopefully get one of you considerate people to buy her!

Cheers,
Nick

You talking track days or Race meetings?

Look up www.hamptondownsridedays.co.nz for track days. They are the only outfit that run them there. AMCC have Advanced Rider Training days at Pukekohe about 4 times over summer or there are test days on usually once a week but they wont have the crash bales out for those days.
Racing- AMCC club series do 5 rounds spread over both tracks plus there will be probably 3 or so other meets at HD (pretty much summer only)

Thanks sharky.

Yeah, track days rather than race. I'm way beyond my better years for that now!

Really looking at the cost of bringing the track bike and whether that, coupled with the availability and location of track days makes it worth it.

Thanks,
Nick

'tis only a 3-3.5 hour drive from Auckland to Taupo.

It depends on whether you're still keen on track days. NZ is not like the UK where you can ride a track day almost any day you want. Track days are more thinly spaced.

Based in Auckland you'll have a choice of 4 tracks :

Pukekohe (40 mins)
Hampton Downs (1 hour)
Taupo (3-4 hrs)
Mansfield (up tp 6 hours)

If you have the kit and still want to ride, bring it all. It'll cost to you to ship it though. Look carefully at the prices of bikes here bearing in mind that the pound is at an all time low against the NZ$.

Check out TradeMe (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/index.htm)

Motorcycletrader (http://www.motorcycletrader.co.nz/) and do some calculations.

Thanks all for the replies.

I agree, the UK does have it easy when it comes to the amount of track days.

It may just come down to space and cost of shipping and whether there's space left when all the essentials are packed. Although, if I could just convince the girlfriend it's an essential piece of kit ......

Hope to see you guys at a track someday. Seems like another great opportunity for meeting people in our to be new home.

Cheers,
Nick

We averaged about two ride days per month last year at hampton downs. Obviously less in winter and more in summer.
