If I were gonna drop a grand, I'd probably be looking for a new suit.

For a grand though you wouldn't get the same quality for a new suit locally. Looks like a good deal to me, list price for the pants alone is $899 new in NZ.

Buy it in NZ? Are you crazy? It's $1200, but whatever, the point is that it's priced a little out of the average second hand market.

thats what I was thinking, I see there are some one piece suits for $999 but i didnt think they were as higher spec.

If it's another grand to buy this set new, then it's a good deal... if it's another $300 and you get to choose the colour... well, only you can decide which way to go then!

well the prices i have been getting are
Jacket about $899 and
pants about $899 as well, so what would be
$1,798 so i would save about $600

So is it worth $600 to you to have:
- A dealer to take it back to
- A choice of colours
- Being the first owner
And there's your answer :)
Mind you, maybe ring a dealer and tell them you situation... perhaps try and lower the above premium to closer to $3-400? They're quality leathers, you're likely to spend over a decade in them, so they might as well be a perfect fit with a warranty, but YMMV.

I take it those are not the 'best' prices you can get? Just phone enquiries? I'd go and see a local retailer and get their best price off them, you may find that there isn't that much difference (like imdying suggested) and it could be better to just go new. Love the A* gear myself.

Yeah that's true... definitely better off talking turkey in person, it's definitely a better communications medium for doing deals.

In retail you never give out your best price over the phone. A, you haven't got any control of the sale, b, it could be a competitor ringing up to price check you. You simply don't do it.

Even with that kind of price difference I think I'd opt for the new option due to the benefit of having someone to go back to if something is wrong, getting to choose your own sizing and colour etc. (Plus the feeling of being the first owner of a new product, so nice!)
But yeah, if you explain your situation I'm sure the dealer would be happy to cut you a deal, if they take a couple of hundred off I assume that they're still going to be making a decent profit off it so there's no harm in trying.

I strongly recommend Qausimoto gear, his website is: http://www.quasimoto.co.nz/
I just got a leather jacket off him for $410, delivered to my door, very good fit, qaulity is great, I feel like I should have paid another couple hundred bucks for it. he also does pants for a little bit less than that. thats a full suit for under $800, brand new.
this dude wears the stuff he makes himself on a litrebike on the track, so he has faith in his own gear.
really good to deal with.

Worth a look, could be the difference in price of a back protector and some good boots.

I also wear Quasi gear, have had exceptional service from him, good guy to deal with.

Asking price is way too steep for used gear.

Given that the new price of those two items is around $1650, and the rule of thumb is that used stuff is between 50 & 75% of new value, in theory the set is worth between $800 and $1200 so he's not asking crazy money. But, they are quite small sizes, and unusually the jacket is a smaller size than the pants (most often it's the other way round for most people).
Those jackets are also on special at quite a few dealers as it's an old model, so it would pay to shop around - Cyclespot in Auckland for instance has those jackets for $699 (http://www.depot4motorcycles.co.nz/index.php?route=product/product&path=89_36_63&product_id=58) and I dare say if you are buying pants as well you'd be able to get a package deal.
