I`ve been watching and listening to the planes arriving yesterday and today.
Those WW2 fighters sound magic!
V8`s and some V twins sound great, but these Rolls Royce Merlins and the P 51 Mustang power plants are just, like, IT, y` know!
Had a C130 Hercules go overhead a short while back.
Just hope the weather holds out...it`s overcast here , drizzling at times and cold (well, 16 is cold compaired to the 30`s we`ve had lately).

And now, looking out off the front decking, the Mustang is flying circuits...so cool.
I remember the last air show (or maybe the one before), hot as day, sitting out on the back deck sipping some fine Port, watching and listening as the planes did there thing in the skys overhead.

Some trees have grown since last time, but you can still see enough...the airdrome would be heaps better though.
Just had some hard out drizzle to stuff things up, but a Venum jet streaked overhead, and now I think a Kittyhawk rumbling through the clouds.
Feck this weather...it`s usually light till around 9.00, and they all do their last flight practices before the big day in the evening.

Well....that was shit.

Been watching the planes all week from work and was looking forward to the day.

$100 to get in the gate, Then the weather packed in and we sat on the wet ground under a warehouse umbrella while the rain came down.

Got drenched as fuckerey around 2.14 so we pulled the pin and split.

What I did see of the flying display was pretty damn cool, and the static displays were all awesome. The kids were just arseholes, and the wife was completely uninterested.

... The kids were just arseholes, and the wife was completely uninterested.

With the shit weather you did well to get to 2.15 then.
I gather the $100 was a family pass.
Hadn`t heard anything flying until after 12, so thought it may have been put off.
Saw the Herc do a low turn over our place, and later the Mustang...and just now one of the twin boom jets.
Shame, and the forecast for tomorrow ain`t looking that good either.

I've decided that it won't be a goer for me this year.
Classic Fighters at Omaka over Easter sounds like the go.
Bloody hardcase.... been a CPL since 1987, and NEVER been to one of the big name airshows. Got time for them now! :niceone:

Yeah mate.... the Mosquito will be something else to see.
I've sat in the example at Mapua a few times... will be nice to see one flying.

Sad to say but it's not looking good for thr mossie being at Omaka. My sons flatmate is doing the skin on it & is not confident it will be ready on time.
Also on a sad note I heard from a display pilot that the Venom will be written off never to fly again.
Bugger the rain & not looking any better tomorrow but organisers put on the best they could with what they had at their disposal with hopefully a better day tomorrow.
An amazing display from the WW1 aircraft especially.

looks like we're piking tomorrow as well... we were gonna do the train journey over (mate doesn't ride and I wouldn't put the Prila through the pain of two manly figures :shifty:)... on the bright side, I will still be drinking beer :). Have fun :)

.It was always going to be a stretch to see the Mossie at Easter - realistically, I reckon it'll be the middle of the year, before it flies........I hope Bill Read has the Anson ready by Easter....

well - its kinda persisting down here in Martinborough, so i think I am going to flag this.
Yesterday as I rode into Masterton from the North, the herc was droning around over my head. It made the Duke sound like a toy!
Went by the aerodrome and saw a few of those beautiful machines from the road outside. They looked real good.

A real pity the weather has turned to crap!

It seems its persisting down almost everywhere! So you aren't alone in flagging the airshow....
Bloody shame as I've been looking forward to this for ages. Didn't mind putting up with a bit of rain on the ride, but it's a long way to go in crappy weather if theres not much to see at the other end :(

Glad I didn't head off at the crack of dawn this morning, as this was posted on the WoW facebook page:

Wings Over Wairarapa: The airshow for Sunday the 23rd has been cancelled due the weather conditions. The airshow management sincerely regret any inconvenience this may cause.
