You sure you're running good, fresh oil in it?

It's definitely normal to have whining in lower gears especially first. Had a gsxr600 that did this brand spanking new. With a stock exhaust it is especially audible.

There are also a lot of noises that could be mistaken for this sound. For example a worn chain or sprockets.

is it really insanely loud?

wouldn't worry about it mate... K1's are bombproof unlike the later pos stuff.

No GSXR's I've owned, including my current K2 thou have had a whine in any of the gears.

Crash it through the lower few gears with out a clutch for a while, that will sort it !

is it a british import or a Jap import ??

the British one tend to whine more

The more the gears are lubricated the less the whine

Never heard a GSXR whine, although they do all sound like they're running 'rough', like a cammed up rod.

Fuck yes, I'm almost embarrassed to start mine up when Sal's CBR is idling away like an Accord.

My 1st gen 750 has a faint whine to it, like a bus gearbox but stacks quieter - you can hear it if you really listen out for it but otherwise not. But if you are having a loud easily audible whine then yeah your box is on the way out, better to get it repaired now than have something explode :niceone:

And of course when its running it sounds like a bag of bolts, but on a 1st gen thats better than purring quietly :D

GSX-R engines aren't quiet mechanically. It's part of their charm

onearmedbandit
22nd January 2011, 15:05
Yup, every gixxer I've owned or ridden (with the exception of the 250's) has had the same mechanical noise. But never a gearbox whine.

Probably a bit difficult for you to get a test ride on one mate, but I assure you it's more than adequate. Thanks for your question.

I know, that's a bastard that is. I just have to buy, modify and then ride.

You and I will have a 'one wheel' drag race one day soon.

Much like him trying to suck the skin off a goats cock.

I look very forward to that mate, very forward indeed. Any hints on what your weapon of choice will be? Just wanna know how I'll need to gear the shop GN125 to make it look like a close race....

If you're gonna use your GN125, best I find a nice CT90.

You obviously haven't learned either!:bleh:

If it's still noisy, feed in a few banana skins or a handful of saw dust, the real fine stuff. That will sort you out for sure...
