It seems it comes naturally to me on the new toy! hehe

Is that a good or bad thing?:devil2:

If it feels easy & natural, I reckon it's good.

Young Lady, you take it very easy out there OK! No Bullshit. lane splitting is all well and good.Keep your eyse wide open, read miles ahaed of you, have escape routes all the usual palaver most of all.
Don't split moving traffic.
Split at a safe speed.
Get where you are going and back in one piece.
An before you milk bar cowboys come on and tell me not to worry Tink is a friend and fellow group rider, her welfare and continued good health is something I am concerned about.

Yup true Mark to all above, saw the bikes behind me.... saw the cars moving, waited on trucks...and had a good mentor ahead of me, plus I lane split on the 250. ;)

Good on you for first time. DONE to eyes behind, and not first... but first on 650!

Its not hard, just be aware... constantly, and don't go fast! or as caseye said!

Whats a milk bar....? is that where widdgies and bodgies used to hang?
I'm not big on lane splitting, not much need on my commute as I have bus lanes....althought they present their own issues....
I see guys/gals doing it on the motorway between moving traffic and I think " they must have a job/date to die for"
I just pretend (its easy on a bike) that your invisible and no one sees you.....about 70% this is true.

You are invisible! I have come to the conclusion that my bike has an invisibilty shield that is activated when the engine is turned on.
Only other bikes can see me...

I used to find blue overalls did the same working in office blocks.....:msn-wink:
I cycle to work the odd time....on that you are even more invisibler  ....even scooters cut you up....vissy vests are the same color as road cones and how many of them do you see bowled.

Sounds good to me - you need confidence if you're going to lane split if you ask me. Nothing worse than following a rider with no confidence in themselves while splitting through morning motorway traffic!

Our Tink has plenty of confidence, don't get me wrong, I'm not scared of splitting or of Her doing so, long as she remains alert and doens't put herself in any undue danger.
Bout time you joined the BFTP there Zeocen, wiht a 1982 XJ you're well in mate.

True.

Nothing worse than lane splitting for the first time when a huge loud fast sports bike zooms up and sits on your arse, and then a big 4 wheel drive sees what you are doing and moves to block your path. Now I just ride the long, long, way home where there is minimal traffic.

When a car moves to block your path, just ride to the other side of the car. Showing cheeky expression to the driver is optional.

And dont forget to ride covering your brakes with two fingers. It is hell on the wrists until you get used to it, but the extra fraction of a second response time it gives me has come in handy on a couple of occasions.

Yes. A very important piece of advice. Whenever in traffic, always cover the clutch and brakes. You never know when you may need them.

I only lane spilt on the way home from work down Elizabeth St hill towards the roundabout on Takatimu Drive here in Tauranga. There's usually two lanes of stopped traffic, so I go down between them in 2nd gear, engine braking, at about 20 km/hr.

Why? Not because I think you shouldn't lane split in any other circumstances, but because I'm shit scared of having other vehicles so close to me even if they are mostly stationary.

I do the merge from the southern link to the south m/way every day & often feel safer when splitting than when sitting in the line even though when 'in line' I try to be either left of right of the vehicle in front so if it all comes to a screaming halt I can go by. Sometimes it seems that the spaces just appear magically as you approach & yes, it is best to ride with confidence, do not hesitate or you will confuse those around you or piss them off & give them time to make it hard for you.
I have had the occasional tosser see me coming & move over to block, if the other drivers are being nice they will leave a gap so you can do the switcharoo, removing said tossers mirror is optional.

lol are you not the one with the loud bike.... I had two bikes behind me, and not looking in my rear cause my whole concentration was happening ahead of me. But they didn't push it, and just pootled behind me at a good distance.

Tossers.... luckily none... they either moved right over or were "IDNSU" blind! I would never take some ones mirror off... no matter what, big whimp me!

The only thing I have with this is the "Don't split moving traffic" While alot safer to split stationary traffic, if it is moving at 40kph down the motorway I will lane split.

But as said, keep an eye on everything. Little tell tale signs like drivers looking at there blind spot etc can be life saving.
