has any one ever considered spraying their firewood with a light spray of waste oil? anyone done it?
you wouldn't want to douse it with lots, but a gentile spray a long time before burning, so the wood can soak it up, might be ok.

Used parts wash petrol, used engine oil, brake fluid.....it all goes over the woodpile outside the workshop, I'd sooner be warm than green....

I've done that before. I also throw in a few cans of almost empty gas cans and spray cans for dramatic effects.

Won't it just make the wood burn quicker? I take my old oil down to the recycling centre.

I soaked some phone books in used oil and also leave the residue from my oil draining pan to drain onto my wood pile there is one major down side:the stink from the burning oil will even escape a well sealed fire box type wood burner.

I would have thought the oil would create a real smell.
My neighbour has his shed just 3 feet over the fence with heaps of long grass between. They cant access it so is quite handy for dumping waste oils, cans of unidentifiable substances, etc.
My wife said I couldn't do that, so I showed her I could! It was easy.

"kin oath it does - helps get the old pot - belly stove going well - and recycling here consists of the local garage - who'd burn it in their own heater - or a 60k trip to the official recyclers.

Yep - particularly when it's Castrol "R" - bloody beautiful.

And it will help keep the grass down & noxious weeds under control too
