You took the name "Dusty Butt" in the wrong context as you appeared to spend most of your time, in the dust, on your butt :killingme

Isn't it enough that we get out there and enjoy the scenery and have fun? Regardless of the terrain. Yes the South Island is blessed with spectacular scenery and each part of the Island has it's own uniqueness.

We have to make do with what we have........:(:(:(

Thanks Mark for organsing this once again, us Waikato chaps will support you even if we seem to be 'inferior' to the 'other' rides across the Strait....
Perhaps Sir Peter and Weta can CGI some steep peaks and trails near Pirongia for the Sth Island boys to make them feel at home......:(

Lasy year Saturday was a very neat route through lots of scenic twisty gravel, then beers & bullshit at camp, then Fishers & the 42 which are definitely a touch more adventurous than the average gravel road.

Went to a trail ride there about 1 month ago and rode that river bed ( along with Cary & Andy ) and it would be the only part of the course that an adventure bike would even look at.

As for the rest of it, it was hard enough on a proper dirt bike and that was only a trail ride !!! .

Good luck to them i say, i like riding not pushing. On last years event there were only 6 finishers.

Hi Nic. Na, your hard core, after all you've broken a bone ADV riding after all :)

After seeing the GS650(name long forgotten, sorry) rider do a slippery Fishers on roadish tyres would reccommend some sort of knobby tyre tho (T63, E09's like) Just read the first post, yeah, nothing difficult on Sat.

Definitely do the Saturday, Mark lays out a great series of backroads. If you're unsure about the Sunday just see what the weather does, if it's dryish give it a go for sure, if it's been wet it might be a bit of a mission.

Mum has gone & planned a family lunch on the Saturday so I might miss that days riding, will probably head down that afternoon in time for the beer & BS then join in on the Sunday.

If you have decent tires you should have no problems.
The 42nd is ok in the rain/after a bit of rain, just if the river crossings get to high it can be a show stopper (just means you turn around and head back). We just need to ensure there is someone sensible making the "its too deep" decision....

I need to decide if I should put the E-07 on or not. The Pirelli has a little tread left.
I am not worried about getting stuck on the 42nd/Fishers (I do like a challenge), more it not making it back up the motorway on sunday...

Got another 1000km ini it? Thoughts?

Cycle treads up here have a few tires in stock that would fit ya.
From memory they have TKC80 & T63 on the rack, but of course they are up here. I could drag one down to Kawhia for you to fit on friday night. Or you could try for something local?

I've always ordered my Mitas tyres direct from LMS, no probs.

If you just need something to fill the gap for the weekend see if you can get something taken off by the enduro boys, I've seen plenty of tyres in the junk stack at the local shop & in mate's garages that would do fine for a weekend.

Usual rule-of-thumb here is you only find out about them after getting new tyres for a ride.

Yes, one is a 150 and one is 130

Here's a little bit of video and pics I took. Both my camera's failed so I didn't get the hours worth of onboard footage I had intended.

Great stuff Eddie - but, I wasn't there and I can still recognise Captain Purplepants at 56 secs - you called him 5661 , 6151 , 666 or some such thing??

Lots of thanks to everybody for the help and advice with the loose bearings. Credit to Russell from Bike Torque did leave a mesage on my cell about 15 minutes after we had left Taumranuni offering help. Maybe he had seen the maintenace being done on the Dr using the park bench, lots of laughs at my expense, good fun.

Hey Cary use can use my spark plug pick up line if you want!!!

Cheers
Al
