Hey guys.
I was just wondering if anybody has any over-seas connections when it comes to buying and sending over motorcycle gear?
I'd really like to buy these gloves here:
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/1/37/26883/ITEM/Spidi-RV-Coupe-Gloves.aspx
The trouble is, the only place in Auckland they are sold is Cycle Treads. They don't stock and are unable to get the colour that I want and they are also VERY expensive at $250.00 a pair.
I don't know anybody myself who lives over-seas and can get me a pair so I figured I'd see if anybody here does.
I'd like a pair in White, size is Large. I have tried them on, thanks to Cycle Treads and they are currently the only pair of gloves I've found to be comfortable after about 2-3 months of shopping around.
I'm also desperately in need of a summer glove as the ones I've got currently have a warm soft inner liner that's extremely hot to wear.
Cheers guys.

You could use http://www.buyusa.co.nz.
But I wouldn't buy abroad for a pair of gloves.
Not just because you'll p!ss Quasi off.
What if they don't fit?
Ask the shop to knock them down to $200 for a there and then sale.

Why don't you buy them from that site you posted? You know what size fits you.

These guys: http://yellow.co.nz/companies/Motorcycles-Parts&Accessories/Eurobike-Wholesale-Ltd/100235470_15094.html are the importers. Might be worth a call...

I've used riders discount a few times. Here's a link to the gloves you want.

@YellowDog
I know which size fits because I tried them on already. Also, I tried to negotiate with the shop owner but he wouldn't drop the price. I just don't understand why they can't make a profit when US companies can still make a profit selling at only $100. Even considering the conversion rates.
Don't know who Quasi is, but being new here I wouldn't want to piss anybody off if I can avoid it.
@hellokitty
I've tried many websites but none ship over here unless your order is of a certain value or at least 3 or more items.
@cs363
They are the same people who Cycle Treads get their stock from, I believe. But thanks for the thought.
@Jizah
Thanks, I'll look into that.

After some more looking online and consideration. I think if I am to go ahead, RidersDiscount will work well. Is everything listed in US Dollars? I can't see anywhere that clarifies. Seems likely though.
Actually I can't believe with all the looking around I had done that I didn't find that site in the first place.
YellowDog, can I ask why you wouldn't buy gloves from overseas? If I've done the math correctly, including shipping it will only cost me $160NZD. That's much more affordable in comparison.

Quasi doesn't make man-sized gloves unless you pay extra for them.

Dont give a damn about pissing anybody off on this website. They wont give a shit about pissing you off or rubbishing your opinion or beliefs. There are some good intelligent views and advice given, but also some stupid idoits that know best about all things motorcycling.
As for the gloves, I've bought several pairs unseen, on line, and found that most were no good. So many have been a good fit around the palm and too long or too thick between the fingers.
Like helmets, definitely best to try the gloves on before buying. The right pair of gloves can make a huge difference to how responsive you are to the bikes' controls.

It would be silly to buy gloves that you have never tried on before as the sizes do vary, like everything does - shoes, clothes etc.
As he said earlier in this thread, he has tried these gloves on at Cycletreads so he will be fine.
Wearing badly fitting gloves does make a huge difference in how the controls feel.
I have bought lots of stuff online and have never had a problem with having to buy lots before they will ship to you, but some American sites won't ship outside of the States at all!
I buy a lot of stuff off Ebay, but only Icon gear as their sizing is consistent.

Unless your able to get them for somewhere around $160ish and in White, size Large. Then I'll buy them online now that I know I'm able to.

the risk is if you get them here and they dont fit: that risk is less if you've tried on a pair here, but things like helmets have different shapes for different markets. (Arai and Shoei particularly). It is difficult (but not impossible) to return or exchange stuff bought from the US, though sometimes it is not cost effective to do so.
The best fitting pair of gloves I have had in years I bought here on KB because a guy bought them on spec on the interwebs and they didnt fit him when they arrived. I lucked out because they fit me perfectly.
But you know, risk and reward of internet shopping.

I have purchased a bit of stuff from ridersdiscount.com and they have been good. Cheap shipping. The shipping is slow however. Some other outfits i have bought gear from charge 4or 5 times as much.

Be interestingto see how they turn out costwise landed - $US100 for the gloves +$US25 postage = $170 or so in NZ. Not a bad saving - if they fit.

IF Cycletreads would have said yes to a $200 sale, I'd say the extra $30 would be well worth it for coverage of any issues.
How'd you go, Newo?

11th February 2011, 18:40
I agree with you steve, Which is why I tried my best to bargain with any local retailers who would be willing to get them in (or sell me current stock). Heck i would have even sacrificed my colour preference for that peace of mind.
However, if they say it can't be done, then i guess it can't be done.
The bill has turned up on my credit card at $160 NZD. Still waiting on delivery but I'm expecting it to take a while.

Gloves arived today.
Right size, right colour.
Fit well, though I expected them to as I had tried them on already.
I only noticed one small loose thread but I can't actually tell if its a loose thread or just a part they missed when cleaning off all the ends. Time will tell though.
Can't wait to use them first thing in the morning tomorrow. It was love at first sight haha.

Yeah alright.
Walked right into that one.
On a side note though, the extra ventilation these gloves provide is awesome.
They won't be any good for rainy days or cold nights, totally worth the purchase though. So much feel and comfort.
