Was in Raglan one morning last week - stopped at Blacksands for the regular coffee.
I see this dude (by no means young - maybe even as old as me!) come up and start looking at my bike. Closely. Next thing he is down on one knee peering into the works. I wasn't sure what was going on so I moseyed on out there and said "Ya wanna ride?"

Turned out he was an Aussie on holiday and he has a Galdius back home. So we compared notes for a bit and generally rabbited on for a while as ya do. BUT. What made this memorable was his cap...

He had on a baseball cap - the usual thing with a brim etc. But what made this one different was the fact that it had a built in FAN in the peak. A gap in the brim held a little, presumably battery powered, fan that blew down into his face. I hadn't seen one of those before...

I spose if ya live in Oz you'd need something like that to discourage the flies...

Anyway he took a pic of the bike with me beside it - no doubt to bore his family with once he got home..."Oh yeah,. I met this dude over there with a gixxer an' guess what? He had NO FAN in his cap!"

I had one of those at primary school.

Was cooler than hitting eachother with skipping ropes!

If I recall these were powered with a small solar panel and were sold here about 15 years ago. A one season fad that drifted off into obscurity.

so, looks like they've upgraded from the old dangley corks on hats now. Did it also have a can of fly spray built in?

Give 'em another 20 years at least.
