View Full Version : New mouse - has the cat got it?

This morning I replaced the keyboard on the work 'puter. The old one was a little knacked due to repeated, errmmm, "percussive maintenance"..coughcough.

So I got this cordless keyboard plus cordless mouse (Microsoft Optical Desktop 1000) for $45. Seems to go. Mostly...

BUT:

When using this forum, clicking on the symbols above the script window - like font, size, bold, italic, underline etc etc etc or emoticons, has NO EFFECT. So like if I select that NO EFFECT I just typed and click on "B" for bold, it does nothing.

So what am I missing? Any ideas?

Thanks all.

Well the good news is it's absolutely nothing to do with your keyboard and mouse ....

Should come with a driver disc and there is plenty of online support (not necessarily here).

I usde to have wireless keyboard and mouse, but they chew through the batteries fast. Also prone to getting lost. Went to a wireless mouse with a rechargeable battery and docking station but when people forget to put it back in the cradle then you get the same issues (flat battery/lost). Went back to a warewhare 5 button cabled mouse and ergonomic wired keyboard and that works well and is relatively child proof.

.

It did. And that side of it is all done.

Works fine for the most part but not on KB...

It might be in the settings but I'm damned if I can figure out just what to change...ngrgrgrgrgrg.

..and the bad news..?

Your mouse and keyboard have nothing to do with how websites are displayed. So it's something else. Either somethings changed with your browser settings/version, the browser isn't displaying things properly ..... it could be anything.

Then I would suggest the driver disk has changed some settings in your browser.

Does the mouse work normally in Windows or other programs? Could the L and R mouse buttons be transposed? Or the mouse isn't working at all? Can you highlight the text with the mouse and press Ctrl+B to make it bold?

Microsoft conspiracy? More than likely...

I could always uninstall the latest set of drivers and see if it works with the last set (earlier versions of same thing).

I'll also try swapping back to the old keyboard and mouse and see what happens...

Update later.

I've just restored windows to before the change and put back the old keyboard and mouse. Also uninstalled and reinstalled FF.

Still the same. Will try v4...either that or Chrome - can't be having with using IE...

More testing...which WORKS! - at least with the old kb and mouse.

Now to change over...again.

(holds breath...) and it works as well. Finally.

I had to uninstall Firefox plus ALL SETTINGS and then reinstall before it would work properly. So yes, something had changed settings in FF - probably their dodgy software...:ar15::ar15::ar15:

This time I won't install the Intellipoint software...never consciously had a use for it anyway...
