Does it count as a near miss when they do actually tag you?

Coasting up the left lane toward a red light and I notice a silver van start to move in to my lane just as I pull even with him, the gf yelps in the intercom "ow! something hit my foot!!!"
Traffic light changes to green and I'm accelerating through asking her "what are you on about?" and glance in the mirror to see said van pulling into a carpark behind me.
I noticed the mark on the exhaust later and realised it must have been from the bumper on the van pulling in to my lane, smacked her foot on the pillion peg and tagged the exhaust, close one huh?

Just another SMIDSY I guess?

had something similar happen in Chch in the 1970s ... a car turned right out of the middle lane just as I was on the outside .. heard the click as he clipped the end of the muffler ...

If you didn't eat tarmac it's a near miss ...

He actually hit you - it's a near miss - "he nearly missed me"
If he missed you, it'd be a near hit - "he nearly hit me", but we'd still call it a near miss...????
