CBR250rr - what's high km on these?

Hey all im looking for a cbr250rr theres one in particular in auckland, unfortunately im in qtown but just wondering its got 59,000ks on it, is this considered high for one of these or if serviced etc etc pretty good...

Not high at all, they are bullet proof, serviced regularly they do a 100000, I have seen it. not only that my friend just a month and a bit ago bought a cbr mc22 1990 from Huntley with just over 80000km and the thing runs just fine he could not be happier! if its all in good order, you like it and want it, its not a crazy price and have the money, buy it and don't let the kms bother you at all

Service history is key bro, see what the auckland bike has in terms of service history and go from there.

yea seemed to have found a pretty good one (hope) for $3900 with some gears...
but has a few scrapes which is fine. But he said the clutch slips if your giving it death since he has changed the oils because he didnt use the proper oil for the wetclutch although im sorta dodged about that...

These motors are near bullet proof. I've had several MC22's and have never had a problem with them or heard of anyone else having problems.

I had to replace my GSXR-250 clutch plates possibly for the same reason they wernt that expensive to get done iam sure it was under a hundy could be wrong tho

No it's not high km's at all, nor do km's really matter on these bikes... new motors are very cheap and plentiful, just put a new motor in when it blows.

Only thing with a cbr250rr at those kms i'd be checking out is the suspension... check for pitting on fork tubes, leaking, smooth action and damping (shouldnt be a bouncing pogo stick) .

Why would you buy a bike with 80,000k's on it with no service history at all? Unless you are mechanically minded, well that's a diff story I guess.

Bikes like that tend to change owner every year or 2. People often start out on something like a GN250, then buy a CBR250, ride it for a year then sell it once they get their 6F. It is very unlikely that every owner has kept receipts for every oil change ever done on the bike.

Since these bikes are JDM and many of them have had their odometer wound back before they landed in NZ, you really have no clue as to how the bike was treated by its previous owners. Even a full service history for the past 5 years means little if the bike has been abused and neglected before that.

Many people do keep receipts for the "major" work, such as balancing the carbs, putting in new fork seals etc, but since most people do their own basic maintenance you only have the word of the previous owner to go on. As long as the bike rides OK, it should be fine. It pays to have a bike mechanic, or someone who knows a fair bit about bikes to have a look at it before you hand over your cash.
