They did this last year too. The thing that stopped me doing it was that you needed leathers - pants and jacket - I only have a jacket, so couldn't go.
(or it may have only been armoured textile pants but either way I didn't have the correct pants)

The weekend doesn't suit me as I have other commitments - otherwise I'd be keen as.
Hopefully as a community we embrace this, it would be somewhat telling and more than a little embarrassing if these courses weren't FULL. All the bleeting on about tougher licensing, better training etc etc in response to the ACC levy hikes would show us as hypocrits if they aren't well attended.

And all of we bikers in the provinces hope our city cousins enjoy your "free" course from ACC :bleh:

Huh, let's put an ACC training day on the same day as Paeroa street races, then, when hardly anyone turns up we can claim motorcyclists don't want to improve their safety and use these 'facts' to jack their levies up further...

Actually it is not like that. It was a coincidence. The girl organizing it really wants to help, and went through a lot of hurdles to make it happen. All we have to do is make use of it.
p.s. and has a motorcycle license too

Ooo a girl Todd, not the one you stapled yourself in front of by accident perchance?
I think I'm working at HD on Saturday and probably heading down for the racing on Sunday.
What sort of skills/drills are they teaching?
TOTO
10th February 2011, 21:32
They have motorcycle instructors who have been paid to come and help out anyone who is interested in having their skills assessed and maybe given some tips and pointers. Aimed at all riders, and will be tailored on individual needs. Not a bad ideat at all.

Would you care to elaborate please? Don't make me beg... :corn:
And I agree with the troublesome one... I'd go, see what they offer, yet I head to Paeroa on Saturday, then marshal Sunday, so I'm out...

Well after 25+ yrs of riding I am sure I have picked up some bad habits and have actually been threatening to do a skills course for some time now...hey, this one is FREE! I notice it says Auckland NORTH, does that mean there is likely to be an Auckland SOUTH one in the near future?

This is the first one and if this one is a success they will look into starting to do it regularly and on a bigger scale.

Thanks Toto for posting this event it would have gone by unnoticed.
I cant make this one but wish I could with family commitments and not quite all the gear yet so I sent an email off to the address as a show of support to encourage future dates. Hopefully it wont be needed with an overwhelming support of free training.
One small suggestion- setting up a subscription to a mailing list for the future dates of events?

I have not actually received any confirmation yet though....

I have sent an email to the lady organising it, and mentioned that there were a few queries about gear etc. I sent her a link to this thread. So clean up your collective acts.

Hawkes Bay Training Day at Roys Hill Kart Track, 20th Feb
Sounds like the same sort of thing, ACC running it and will be using Pacific Club Buckets for training (my sons bike is being used)
Can use your own bike in the Slow riding, manuvering and braking area and the Buckets on the other part of the track. Thats how it was set up last time but the event was cancelled due to the rained out track

If you do these free training days for ACC will they cut down the price of registration
by providing a certificate? If so when can I sign up and do they do free training in Tauranga?
R-Soul
11th February 2011, 13:20
Ah hell. The ACC lady just contacted me and said that She cannot acess this site as it is blocked for them.
The training is from 09h00 to 15h30 - so quite a long day then...
No special riding gear is require- just bike, helmet and suitable riding gear.
If you have queries, email her at the email address on the poster.

here are some answers to my queries:
1) Lunch/food?:
Regarding lunch, they'll be a lunch break, there's a number of shops down the road or people can BYO. We're going to supply water for everyone but sorry no food supplied.
2) If you do these free training days for ACC will they cut down the price of bike registration by providing a certificate? If so when can I sign up and do they do free training in Tauranga?”
Unfortunately at this stage there is no system set up to recognise training and allow discounts on registration costs. But ACC is currently reviewing all our accounts to introduce the concept of risk rating or experience rating as we're referring to. People may have heard about this occurring on 1 April for the workplace account. A number of these potential changes are being developed for the motor vehicle account at present and will be announced by the minister.
I hadn't thought about issuing attendance certificates, would people like these? Can sort them for the day if they'd be interest in these.
3) Will these days be done “down south” (not sure if this is South Auckland or Wellington) or around the rest of the country as well?
If people are looking for similar training opportunities through ACC within their local areas I'd suggest they contact their local Injury Prevention Consultant, best way to do this is either ring the contact centre (0800 844 657 ) or their local branch (visit http://www.acc.co.nz/contact-us-and-feedback/locate-acc-branch-map/index.htm) and ask for them. Each area has specific deliverables on training, so if they hadn't heard about any pays to give their local person a call.
She also mentioned that:
"It's good to see everyone's interested and really positive about it. It's great to see the motorbike community in action and how close you all are and a get network for spreading the word!!"

So who wants certificates? Is it neccessary? I am not a big one for them, unless it will help later.
Also, if its good, we should make sure to comment and provide feedback on it at the ACC website for the North Shore.

I emailed Katrina again and asked for confirmation- she had either missed my email or it had not gone though to her before and she did not know about me. So better you do so as well to make sure. Put one of those "message delivery" and "message read" read receipts thingy's on it.

I hope the organisers understand that the lack of interest is most likely due to it clashing with (in my opinion anyway) the biggest motorcycling date on the calendar!
BTW for my b/day I have been given a spot in the Prorider day at Pukekohe end of March and I'm stoked! Been wanting to do it for ages but the price tag was putting it out of reach...

I've just advised the missus that I will be going out on Sunday. Went pretty well untill I reminded her of the ACC ride on Sat.
Funny how they can change from sweet and cuddly to  in 2 secs flat.
