Now P.I.G.s what I wanna know is what's the deal with your hats? They provide no real protection, offer no advantage to your job & wouldn't they become a hindrance should you ever have to (god forbid) put down your donuts:gob: & coffee & actually chase someone?

This guy isn't wearing the turban for style or to show his cultural heritage, it's required (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_K%27s) by his religion... Would you also try to force Jews to eat non-kosher food, or Muslims to eat non-halal food, if you thought it would in some way make them appear more professional?.. I'd much rather have a smattering of Sikh officers who wear a slightly different uniform and are good at their job than have a bunch of officers who wouldn't have made the cut if it weren't for the fact that the uniform standards prevent any Sikh's from serving, thus reducing the potential recruiting pool. This is exactly the reason that armies have traditionally waived the bans on long hair or beards for Sikhs and Jews - it's all very well to bleat on about how you don't want to respect their beliefs until suddenly you need their help and realize that your intolerance has prevented them from serving their country as they wanted to.
Methinks if the hat incorporated some form of satanic imagery offensive to Christians, the majority of people who'd be decrying a Sikh wearing his turban instead of a hat would suddenly change their minds about one standard for all - far too many are happy enough to discriminate against a minor religion they probably have no experience of, like Sikhism, but when it's the major religion of the land, they'll be singing a different tune.

I cannot be bothered replying to all of this crap. Too many holes.
For starters, there's quotas on intakes. You won't believe me, but it's highly possible a middle aged white man was denied the job for the Sikh, it does'nt work the other way around here, you can argue black and blue about it, it's a fact. It's not official, but it exists. I'm not saying he would'nt be good, I do not discriminate I think you'll find. I believe that all persons should be required to wear the same uniform. This is not the case here.
Secondly, yes, I would force Muslims to eat non-halal food and jews to eat pork, because that is exactly what I said is'nt it? It's exactly the same.....is'nt it? Why not further disect and make up some more bullshit that I did'nt say? You twat.
As for the Christian comments, what a load of shit. N.Z bends over and takes it up the arse for the minorities, letting them do whatever they want to suit their beliefs (remember i'm not talking everydau life i'm talking in a job with a strict uniform code), but like fuck you could in their wonderful countries.......so get it straight. I've been to middle eastern countries and had to follow their rules, which I did happily, because that was THEIR customs. It never ever goes both ways.

Look up what racism means. You'll be surprised. It does'nt mean "word to flang around if someone says something controversial". In essence it means you consider a race or races inferior. I do not at all think in this way. I do not care where you are from, or what you believe in, I just want you do have to follow the same rules and standards I have to.

A 100kg woman is not a little girl. But you seem to know the story better than I do anyway.
The statement you made about the Sikh was racism. You said directly that if he won't wear the hat like the other cops he should "fuck off back to India". I'm sure he and his ancestors would have gladly said "fuck off back to England" for the 150 years they occupied India.
Who are you to say he isn't allowed to be a police officer due to his religion? A prick with 1950s views of the world. It's only racism if it applied to him only, you are deliberately missing the fact that I did say it applies to anybody of any colour wanting to do the same thing, and I would say the same thing to a white guy, yellow guy, pink guy wanting to do the same.
Actually look up the dictionary definition, you will find it's proper meaning is far from what it is applied to.
I did'nt say anything about him or his religion being inferior, nor that anyone other than an Indian sikh can wear the turban. I believe in keeping the rules consistent for all. It is my opinion. I don't expect everyone to agree with it, or to understand the rules and brotherhood that comes with a uniform.

So you're saying that we should be governed by our laws with no respect for others because we're in charge? And that to be a police officer in a country he might have grown up in he can't be a Sikh.
If I go to Japan/Hong Kong I expect I can do as I please and no one will care. It's a developed country, that can handle different cultures. Much as we should be, much as England should be also.
If I went to a developing country I'd make sure to follow their customs. They'd probably have too much of a spaz about me not following their customs. The view point is entirely different.
England/NZ/America... pretty much all the developed countries will have large sets of multicultural groups, and this in turn can't lead to discrimination from old laws set in place when the workforce was entirely white!
I'm sure that Sikh cop can't just wear any turban, I'm sure the administration would have said "wear navy blue turbans" so that they don't turn up to work in a bright red one. Therefore he has a uniform, that allows him as a Sikh to work as a police officer.
Morally you cannot say to him that he can't work because he wears a turban. As would it if you said to a Muslim he's not allowed to work as the prayer times fall during work. The whole point of a developed/modern country is to allow people from everywhere to work in the country.
What happens when you do follow the rules exactly, like that guy with the turban who couldn't go and accept his community award because the RSA didn't allow headwear inside. He can't feel like a normal person in society, because there are rules set directly against him.
How many rules in NZ directly affect only white people? None, so you're not disadvantaged in the slightest so why are you bitching?

Oh flippin heck. From one honkey to another, it was a flippant comment.
Hmmm, I am coming of two minds......I still disagree that allowances are given like this.
1) The cop in the question was in England. There's shedloads of Indians in England. About 2 million from memory. About 700,000 of them are Sikhs and I think about 1 in 20 peeps in London are Sikh (and it felt like about 1 in 5 in north west London). Therefore it wouldn't be unreasonable for London to make small concessions to accommodate Sikh coppers.
How many kiwi cops are there in India?
Do kiwis have representation in their police force? Does it really matter? It does'nt matter what colour the cop is. Why does everyone need to be represented?
If there was an area of India with a large Kiwi population, then yeah, I think there should be Kiwi's in their police force. If colour doesn't matter, then would you be so relaxed if if 100% of the kiwi police force were Maori or Chinese?
If I moved to India and I had to wear a turban to join their Police force i'd do it (if that's what I wanted to do obviously). Respecting religion is fine, but why can't our rules and regulations be respected too?
Dude, the cop in question has not MOVED to the UK. His family have probably been there for over a century.
Rules and regulations have to move with the times depending on how the ethnic, moral and religious mix of a country change. The Maori changed their rules and regulations to accommodate us non-Maori. As New Zealand has large Chinese and Indian populations, I have no issue with making concessions to accommodate their wishes so long as it is not directly at odds with the majority of the rest of the population. Hell, the Mormons and Muslims can have 4 wives here because as far as I'm concerned, it doesn't directly affect any other section of the population.

Stop taking easy street. If you were to remove a policeman hat, how would you know in a crowd of people who was a policeman?

Do they still use the old wooden top when walking the beat. Its so long since I've seen a cop on foot I no longer know  I presume they went for the cloth peak jobs for getting into and out of cars, rather than for the gay biker look

The old bobbies helmets they used to have at least provided a place to put their lunch while on the beat. My Dad used to walk the beat in Wellington and in England back in the 1960s. No car, no radio, no backup except for an appointed time to be at a public telephone booth.... and just a short wooden baton for a weapon.
Hats in general add height and help with an impression of authority. At least this USED to work when they only hired men of 6ft plus. Now days some of the kids recruited look like they will blow over.
The peaked cap provides some sun deflection from the eyes and also protection from some of the elements.
So yes they do have practical uses. The OP just cant see past his own self driven bitterness to see that.
Obey the law and you never have a problem with our police. In the main, they are excellent people doing a job few of you would cope with. But like ANY job, you always get the odd idiot. Just like this website.

I could just imagine all your anti cop shit over this.
For a start... three of them have forgotten to put a magazine into their rifle. The one with the magazine fitted probably hasn't been allowed any rounds. Safety at work!
Another will get a surprise when he lowes his goggles and the world goes black...

Headdress forms part of a particular uniform and varys on the function of the task, i.e Service Dress or Combat Dress. With respect specifically to headdress I'll put it in simple terms - Helmet for riding bike/ horse, baseball cap for SAR, Dog or Boat work, balaclava for cold climate, ballistic helmet for STG/ AOS etc....
This is no different than the Defence Force, Beret, Jungle hat, Base ball cap, Kevlar helmet etc....
The Forage cap and or Akubra provide no personal protection other than from the sun and deflecting light objects. That aside they form part of a uniform dress standard.

because I asked why they wear a pointless hat & if its a hindrance? while suggesting they should be in something a bit more "moveable" while not going full AOS gear, yep sure sounds anti-police to me .
So if a cop were to say to you - "Oi, cunt, over here!", you wouldn't be offended...?

Honestly no, I think I'd find it more amusing if anything, but at the same time cunt is a bit different than P.I.G. (Police Inforcement Guy).

Perhaps. Childishly Unnecessary Niggling Troll isn't too insulting - especially as you're the biggest C.U.N.T. of all...? :innocent:

In short Sir Robert breed Sandy Back Pigs. Like most things the term was imported into NZ. There is also a US version.

 not to bad Virago I like it. But no I'm not the biggest C.U.N.T. of 'em all infact as far as I'm aware I don't fit the Troll definition but then I've never really understood exactly what that meant anyways? thought it had something to do with flaming?

So you've just contradicted yourself. Most of us have encountered one of the "idiots" and as a result, had a problem with our police whilst obeying the law.

I heard a cop recruitment ad on the radio - looking for 1000 new recruits (or something like that) and they want most of them to be young, even of school leaving age. :shit:

Yep, young and female. One of their ads got pulled because it said "we like them young". Maybe a tad too pedo-like.
