Why is it that members of most biker gangs ride Harleys? Hells Angels, Rebels, and many of the other criminal organisations all seem to ride them! Why don't they ride mopeds? Or motards? Or sports bikes? Do they all ride Harleys just to try and make up for something they don't have?

Maybe Harleys are easier to steal?

Hells Angels formed about 8 years after the japs declared war on their country. So they rode american bikes..... Might have something to do with it.

Harleys tend to be loud. They are large, and they have a lot of "presence".
Seems a good fit to me.

Good point was just a thought..... The japs were loathed though, the germans had a bit of respect...

You know, maybe it's just me, but I have a real problem with gangs calling themselves "motorcycle enthusiasts."

...you may find somewhere that Sonny Barger said of the Goldwing...if they were around a lot earlier they may have been the bike of choice...

They are hardly about to admit to what we all know.... that they are organised criminals.
They ride bikes the same way they conduct their criminal activities... aggressively and without regard for anyone else but their own selfish greed.
NZ is far too tolerant of crime of any kind. Political correctness and human rights let this scum walk all over society.
All criminals should be properly punished, not slapped into a taxpayer funded hotel for a free holiday.

It is not unusual to see associates riding an occasional sports bike.
They haven't earned enough from illicit drug sales to buy a HD... or haven't found one to steal yet.

Read 'Hells Angels' by Hunter S Thompson. Gives a pretty good view into why they are as they are.

Yes, this is what I have read in a book somewhere - there was a basic history lesson on the Hells Angels that said exactly that.
American pride etc....

Nice tradition started by the GIs that came back with said helmets as souvenirs.

I think also Harley Dealers are good for taking folding stuff for good deals on new Harleys, no questions asked.
The price of Harleys it's easier to launder more cash per transaction than, say a V-strom.

But they must have farkin hard arse skin,no gloves, half lids, vests, wow I'll never be able to ride one, skins too soft.
Incidently in the speedway world Rotorua stockcar club has been known as Rebels for years, they're now worried the "rebels" tag could prevent sponsors coming on board for supporting their super stock team.

They ride Harleys in the states because of the All-American image ... (strangely enough the Angels are very patriotic ...) ... those who wear Nazi helmets do so to piss off the straights ...

But seriously, Sonny Barger (founder memebr. Hells Angels) trashes Harleys in one of his books. Says he rides them because of the image, but if he was sarting out now he'd ride a Honda ST or a BMW ...
