Having nothing to do for the next few weeks (student holidays) - I tend to fill spare time by watching the odd soaps - sad I know..

Not any of that yankee or 'merican drivel - but actual good stuff - most of which is on UK-TV.

Here are a list of fairly good programs.

Sharpe (was the final last week - thursday slot replaced by Ultimate force).

Sean bean plays a british soldier in nepolionic times. I think the series is about to end, and the last few have been played out of order.

Foyles War (saturday 8.30pm uk-tv)
Detective series played in period 1940 Hastings. Foyle is the detective who has a female driver and son in the RAF. Usually a murder that gets solved. Not uncommon to see a few spitfires (they have 5 in flying order).

Last episode started with a german dornier crew getting shot down. One of the crew was murdered - turned out they had secret radar stuff on board (it was the new german pathfinder stuff) and one of the crew was detailed to kill the technician. Also, local villiger was killed and they thought a local murder, but turned out that one of the germans was landed by sub and was a secret agent.

Island At War (sunday uk-tv)
Another period war drama based on the german invasion of the channel islands. Characters are historically accurate - includes the jewish people that were sent to the camps (the first one introduced last week).

Currently one of the leading characters sons landed on the island with a collegue to spy out the german positions - while signalling the sub to pick them up, they were discovered and promptly shot the guards. They've managed to escape capture - but he germans are searching for them.

Servants (sunday after iow).
Life from the servants point of view - scams and the like - crass language but interesting to watch.
