Henry Cole is filming a 'worlds greatest rides' for the Travel Channel, starting in Auckland today.

I hung out with the crew for a while this morning. Top people. Wish I could go with 'em!

Having seen his efforts to date I think the chance of him doing justice to NZ is pretty much zero.

Did ypu give him a KR T-shirt to wear....? That would be the advertising coup of the century!

arnt the best roads in the south?

Well - I've ridden all but 3 of the red shield State Highways now and IMO the best places to ride are in the south, where the 'epic-ness' of place is unrivaled.

But some of the best roads are actually in the Western and Southern Waikato.

I hope he rides something with mudguards so he doesn't complain about riding in the rain. And I also hope he provides more commentary about what he's experiencing rather than bitching at his longsuffering cameraman.

That said, I have enjoyed his travels so far, particularly roads I've ridden in the USA.

Well thats easy. If he's finishing in Chch on the 28th, he can do the TT2000 on the 26th and 27th... plenty of excellent roads in that ride

than?

Wasting this place riding through it without stopping to explore it.

Apart from that - personally I'm against endurance competitions on public byways.

Just saw bits of the Top of the South one on one of the crap closeup thingies (moustache man).

When they get to Pelorus, the camera stops juuuuust before the NADS* & EddieB get on film

Thanks for that BD, I hadn't noticed this was coming. Henry can be a bit ummm idiosyncratic(?) but at least it's something on TV that shows bikes in a positive way.
And his shows are way better than "Orange County Choppers" or whatever.

Í've watched many of Cole's rides televised here in Bahrain and like Pritch, feel he can sometimes be a bit OTT, "Geez it could rain today, I'm not happy, no riding for me blah blah".

Anyway the first of the 2 parts was screened on OSN Middle East tonight - much awaited by Moi. To my great relief, although he does miss out a lot of quality roads/scenery(I guess it IS a whistle stop tour) - he absolutely loved the North Island, and has been told repeatedly the South Isle is better.

At one point, the day after his birthday, he asks the camera "So is this one of the worlds greatest motorcycle rides? TAKE A LOOK!"

I won't spoil it for ya's - and am mindful of possible wet weather on the West Coast of the SI, - but looks bloody good for EnZed.

The first part finished as he arrived in Picton. Bring on # 2.

I told 'em I did. I said "'enry" I did. I says "it's always raining on one side of the alps. Check the weather map and go to the dry side like." But they were on a schedule. So 'sucked in' I says. 'Take yer umbrella.'

Good Morning / Good Evening depending on the time zone,

I just wanted to drop you a quick note firstly to thank you for all of your help in making this latest series of The World’s Greatest Motorcycle Rides. My Commissioner at Travel Channel thinks it is the best one yet as do I.

We all had the best time in New Zealand and for the first time after a three week trip away from family and friends we didn’t want to leave.

I just wanted to let everyone know that the 2 x 1hr programmes will be transmitted in New Zealand on Sunday 29th May and Sunday 5th June at 21:30 on Travel Channel New Zealand. The first episode is on the North Island and the second on the South Island.

Travel Channel will now be producing the DVD of the series in a proper box with a nice front cover etc that I would prefer to send you rather than a DVD duplication with my hand writing on the front. This will take them a few more weeks but as soon as they are done I will put one in the post. If you do want to buy more you can on the Travel Channel website [ www.travelchannel.co.uk ].

Many thanks once again, I hope you enjoy the series.

Hamish Rieck

I'm always amused at how Poms struggle with English, for example the west coast North Island town of Levene. Then there's that hard G business in English words like singer but also in Maori words like Hangi. Clue: listen, don't read.

And one doesn't get to Picton via the Marlborough Sound and it isn't an estuary, the word "sound" is a clue, Henry. The BDOTGNZA is happy to escort you next time you're down this way.

Despite all Henry's gushing, it's nice to see somebody enjoying themselves on roads that I have enjoyed too.

What he means is there are not all that many open to the public type rides of any length but lots of shorter charity type rides.

The vast majority of riders here just hop off with a few mates for a day ride or a bit of a tour.

If you fancy coming here for a ride post up on here as others have done in the past and someone will help
