View Full Version : What's with all the buckets?

I'm beginning to notice a bucket racing fad going on and I'm wondering why?
There's other forms of motorcycle racing out there. Minimotos are a good one for example, and you can transport the little fuckers in your car.
Coolest racing available, low cost, big laughs and you can crash all day and still feel fine.
Give it a shot.
Or, you could just stop being a girl and get a real race bike :devil2:

Buckets is buckets and buckets is quick fun and really pisses you off when you crash. Nah I dont know why there is so much on bucket racing and stuff all on Mini moto.

I go on about minimoto and get told I'm a stupid dumbarse :-p
I would rather get a minimoto over a bucket. A would've though a bucket was too fragile and you would be breaking it all the time. At least with a minimoto it doesn't have the mass and it isn't very high off the ground for you to badly damage anything when you fall off

I've had some bloody spectacular crashes on my Mini now (none as good as Haydens) and haven't even bent a lever or scratched the fairing.

Hmmm, wonder how I'd get on riding one with one arm? Might have to beg myself a ride on one, the indoor go-kart track across the road from our work has races every Monday night.

I havent been on one, or seen them race. I assumed they are bloody hard to fit on. (Im not a big guy, but Im not small either) I am interested in either form of racing.
The 3 main particulars Im after is.
1: Cheap.
2: Something that will improve my road riding skill
3: Fun and I can generally walk away from the crashes.
If someone could tell the models brands to look at on trade me, etc that would be great. Im prob going to look at something this summer. Buckets, Minis, (God help us I may even get another dirtbike.)

Buckets are real race bikes ya big blouse
Minimotos are good for a laugh but thats about it,I can't see ya getting to pass a RS250 Aprilla and ZXR400 in the wet on one of those or do any street races
low cost? bet a buckets less to buy although maintainence might be higher and they are harder to transport than a minimoto
crash all day and feel fine? I know at leat two guys who'd disagree with that one, unless of course you consider doing a endo getting concussion and spewing in the rubbish bin fine?

Mini moto = Mini Cock more like it.
I can fit my bucket in my car without ripping anything out either. The buckets are just like anything else. Certain people like them and certain people don't. If you don't then leave them alone. If you like mini moto's then stick to it and good on ya but don't have a go at bucketeers or anyone else just because it isn't your thing!

Size is no real impediment to going quick on a bucket, ask anyone who ever tried to get past Otang through the corners. That guy could take up track space I tell you and was bloody fast. Dave Diprose has been porking it up over the last few years  and he's still super quick and Jo Meads at 110K was fast as well.

Mini-Moto is not a viable form of racing. The bikes don't handle like normal bikes, and therefore won't improve your road riding one bit. They're pretty slow, and WAY too small. Ask anyone who's seen me riding one. I'm apparently a laughing stock :oi-grr:
As for no injuries? I bet the guy who broke his collarbone (that one night) would beg to differ.
The only good thing about mini-moto's is the "party-a-bility" factor :devil2: That is, tuck it under your arm, take it to a party and go nuts in some parking lot when everyone's bored :Punk:
Buckets are cheap (even as low as $200), take a little more maintanance (teaching you as you go) and teach you more about riding. :ride:
You can bucket race (Including the bike!) for under $500 apparently. Get out there and try it. It's different, but still cool.

Trash man is right. Where is the skill in doing Puke (for example) when you spend all fuckin day going down the back straight. Isn't one of the finer arts of motorbike racing learning to back off to the appropriate speed so you use all the track when taking the next corner and setting up for the one after? :moon:

Is this a challenge young 'Chucker?
It sounds like a challemge and we do enjoy a good challenge.
I suggest you bring your mighty A100 to Turners and Growers carpark in Grenada North on Sunday afternoon, say..............3pm.
I'll bring a Mini and we'll have a neautral party mark a course that's suitable to buckets and please please PLEASE show me how slow Minis are.

intake set up is just suck through system using a GN250 carb, the turbo has it's own oil supply seperate from the motor using a GN125 oil pump geared to run off the end of the crank, unfortunately we havent the room to gear it as it should so we're looking at options to reduce pressure/flow as at the moment it supplies to much

Been thinking about that. Have you tried Teeing off the main line with a pressure relief valve in the tee line? You could then run a line back off the relief valve back to the catch tank. That way you'd get the pressure you want and the flow would regulate itself as well.
