View Full Version : Does your helmet fit properly?

There is a lot of speak and statistics about the importance of wearing helmets but not much about the importance of wearing the right size helmet (unless there is and I've just been unaware of it!)

So, who can say they're pretty sure they've got the 'right size helmet'?

Has anyone got gruesome stories of hitting their head while wearing a helmet that was too big / small?

When buying a helmet, did the bike shop emphasize the importance of getting the size right?

Bugger, I searched quite a bit to see if it had been covered already! Missed it. Will have a read.

Yes, mine does as well. I did a lot of trying on of skid-lids before I found one that fit properly. It could save your life someday... :ride:

I just bought the helmet that fit best (and was red).

Yes because when I went to buy a helmet, I brought one that fitted, I mean why would you buy one that didnt fit?

Most people have the option of buying a helmet that's either too big, too small or just right. Lucky bastards. I have only two of those choices available.

Most people also have the option of multiple helmet manufacturers. Lucky bastards. I have only a choice of two.

Let's not get started about graphics and colour choices.

Having tried a Shoei XR1100 (M) I have revised my opinion of the comfort and fit of the aforementioned brand.

Quite a simple procedure, unless you're Hitcher of course.

Start by measuring your head...........58cm here.

I have pretty much the same problem as Hitcher - my old helmet was a 2XL flip face that I could get my head into, but I had to do some pruning of the polystyrene as the pressure to my forehead became painful after only about 10 minutes of wearing it. I just got myself a new 3XL full face, which is nice and comfortable, but not as tight as generally seems to be recommended, but since I can't even get a full face 2XL onto my head, it's not like there's much choice.
