I went into a Honda shop to get new front pads. They only had Premier wizz bang pads. I get back to work and notice they say "race pad" on them. "Brake Pads PH Racing CBR600"

I had a look on bits4bikes and notice there are two versions of Premier pads http://www.bits4bikes.co.nz/parts/honda/1340.aspx

PBPH342 - Road sintered
PBPHR342 - Race sintered

Question is how well will these work on the street especially in winter? I don't need maximus braking on the street just want to be sure they work well enough to stop me before 'no look u-turn' dude.

I do the odd hoon around the track but mainly no fang street
I have Ferodo HH sintered street which worked pretty well (but none in stock)

I cant comment specifically on the Premier ones, but I had EBC HH sintered on a previous bike and they were shithouse when they were cold.
Worst case is you find out they're shit, take them off and put them in the cupboard till next summer. Chuck some organic pads in.

I wouldn't use Premier (yeh, right!) pads anyway.
But I have used both EBC and Ferodo race pads on the street with no problems at all.

Yeah, couldn't find too much info on them. Google throws:

Test PS Das Sport-Motorrad Magazin 11 of 15
Deposits with non-uniform braking Beläge mit uneinheitlicher Bremswirkung
Hot it works almost perfect, but cool from a few meters without braking the RPH so strong that its effect wears off easily Heiß funktionieren sie nahezu perfekt, doch wenige Meter ohne Bremsbetätigung kühlen die RPH so stark ab, dass ihre Wirkung leicht nachlässt.

...eh?!

Premiers last about 2 minutes, not recommended.

Ok cool, cheers all. I'll take them back and get the shop to order me a different set.

I always order the originals, expensive eh but that is what works best.

I had a cbr600 and the ebc's i fitted chopped out the rear disc, had to get it machined down to minimal to remove the scouring, got the originals and all ok.
I virtually never use the rear brake now anyway.

Hondas hard discs, soft pads.

Ok thanks. I'll see what they can get in.

Ok thanks. I'll see what they can get in.If your local dealer fobs you off with something on his shelf, make sure you get some aftermarkets that some one has recommended and has actually used.
It cost me $150 to get the disc skimmed down, and broke more than one tool so no money was made on the deal.

Just put a set of gold Fren Ceramic carbon Sintered pads in mine!
$135 for 3 sets of pads.

From what I have learned over time any sintered pads will always take a bit longer to warm up but have better stopping power when hot.

I work under the theory that I shouldn't be goin fast till my tyres have warmed up therefore the pads will be warm as well or vice versa!
So sintered suit me fine!
Also means I take it easy on the engine as well till its up to temp.

So pretty much everything comes together after the first 5 mins or so from cold!
I reckon its safer this way, curbs any risk taking before everything is ready for it including my brain!!!

Anyway just my 2c!

Way out of my area of knowledge, but don't sintered pads last longer, and aren't they more resistant to break fade (aka, they keep working at higher temperatures)?

yes everything you say but they are a bit harder on the disks.

The shop dude was really good about swapping them over.

I don't think he was convinced that normal EBC HH were any better for street use but happily refunded and is ordering EBCs in (which are also half the price - $70 vs $110 a side).
