I'm keen Zed. A great piece of road.

As Devil said, Sunday looks a whole heap better than Saturday weather wise at this stage. Is there a possibility the ride could be moved to Sunday if the weather does turn out to be crap?

Is there a possibility the ride could be moved to Sunday if the weather does turn out to be crap?It will be happening on Saturday if it's dry, otherwise I can probably ride as far as Wellsford on Sunday (I must be back home by 12 pm though) if it's rained out Saturday.

Hope to see you there Steve! :wavey:

Well that would make 3 weekends in a row for me. Not that I'm complaining... But it would only be on Saturday as I am working Sunday. At this stage the weather looks dodgy but we'll wait and see.

I'd go for Sunday. Both main weather sites say Saturday will be crap & Sunday ok

Looks like I'll be riding with the slow group on Sunday, weather permitting. I still need to buy a couple of bits for the bike and Saturday morning is the only time I can do it.

ZedYes! Got my weekly riding fix and now I'm a happy chappy!

Report:

9.15 am - Nhuan turned up first (for a change :msn-wink: ) then MikeL and I arrived and gased up around the same time. We agreed to wait until 9.40 am just in case of latecomers but no-one else showed, so we took off down SH16 towards Maungawhai Heads. The weather was a mixture of overcast cloud & low distant fog, no rain but no sunshine either. The roads were damp and drying out.

10.14 am - The threesome stopped at Kaukop to re-group, not that we really needed to. Mr Fuss-pot that I am decided to clean my visor...and we were off again.

11.00 am - Stopped to refuel and have a coffee & snack at Wellsford for 20 mins.

11.45 am - Reached our destination of Maungawhai Heads Beach on reasonably dry roads, parked the bikes up, and walked down to the beach where we talked and admired the wonderful scenery for half an hour. There were large patches of blue sky and the sea breeze was refreshing. It sure will be good to go there again...soon!

12.15 pm - Headed back to Auckland via the same route, stopped in Wellsford to re-group and clean visor again. :eek5: The roads from the Heads all the way back down SH16 until we reached Woodville forest were DRY!! Just the way I like em.

1.30 pm - Home James! Bike is neatly parked in my gargre and as I walk inside I begin to hear the heavy downpour of rain on the roof - Auckland is welcoming me back! :sneaky2:

Highlights - 70% dry roads, didn't get rained on once! The Heads beach was very peaceful and just what I needed to end the working week off. :2thumbsup

Sorry but no pics this time round.

Thanks for the company guys, let's do it again real soon. :Punk:

Well, two out of three did. I turned off SH16 to Kaipara Flats as I had arranged to call in at Orewa on the way back. Forgot about the gravel road... Slowed me down a bit, then stopped for a quick bite at Warkworth. Sent a text message to my wife congratulating myself for having avoided rain all day, set off again minus plastic pants and within a few minutes got caught in an almighty downpour. Stopped to put on my overpants, then set off again but the rain was so hard I had to slow to a crawl as visibility was zero.
Fortunately it didn't last that long. By the time I'd finished at Orewa the sun was out again and I had a dry ride back to Akl.
Despite the damp bit it was an enjoyable ride. :niceone:
