Looks to me like a 200, no disc rear, not as curvacious round the rear :innocent:

Have talked to the seller who reckons that they have been told by mechanic that it's a 250, but yeah...

Anyone who can confirm either way? Cheers

It should say on the stamp on the headstock.

Should have the displacement stamped into the base of the barrel; ask the seller to put up a photo of it  Looks very much like my DR200SE. That's not to say they didn't make 250cc variants of that engine, because they did; it's basically the same donk as used in the GN series with various displacements.

Pretty sure the DR250/DR-Z250-based Djebels had the XC moniker and as far as engine/chassis is concerned they certainly looked like DR250s. Even then they were a softened version better suited to touring than trails, and I would expect the "SE" version to be softer again if it's based on what we see locally mostly as a 125 or 200 (the DRSE & TF Trojan farm bike). The DR-Z250 had 50% more power & suspension travel, for the same weight as the DR200SE, and in terms of ancillaries the Z was far more suited to off-road use.

A quick google (images) shows many 250 Djebels that look like DR250s, and a 200 Djebel that looks like the one in TradeMe. :) Almost stickerless, but this is a DR-Z250:

Aside from the numerous tell-tale signs that this is a 200, the easiest way to distinguish is that it has a SOHC engine, 250cc are DOHC

The 1990-1995 dr250s were SOHC i think?

Thanks all, I wouldn't mind a 250 Djebel for $2K with those sort of Km...it's still probably not a bad buy but I'll move on!

Well I reckon you are right that it's only 200cc.

Long model runs, lots of variants, and lots of JDM variants that we never see until they're imported used, all means that there's lots of weird and wonderful blends out there.

Been mucking around today, rear shock out, linkage removed and greased, mine would look great if it was this tall :violin:

and ran reliably:violin:

I'm with you. The 250cc djebel I had (96) was a DOHC and that bike is clearly a SOHC. As WW said the 96 on 250 Djebels were very similar to the DRZ250. The earlier Djebels look a lot like the DR250S that ADVGD posted a pic of. They had a shock ride height adjustment knob on the handle bars.

Cheers R
