Im thinking about getting a scooter but have it upgraded to a 80cc instead of the 50cc...
Do i really need to register it as a motorcycle or can i run the risk of just registering it as a moped?

Thanks

Run the risk - but be warned its not all raspberry drop tea and crumpets when you run the risk.

just get a 125 or a 250. 30cc is hardly an upgrade. more of a headache by the time you muck around with selling/buying etc etc for such a tiny increase

He is right.

I had a DJ1 that was bloody slow. Then thinking that by derestricting it and gaining 1hp or something like that it would go like a cut cat, guess what... it was still slow.:shit:

If you want to tinker with an engine and have cheap rego consider buy a working vintage/classic bike. As long as it has some history of road use in NZ the re-VIN is easy, especially if you go to someone who knows the different requirements of early year bikes . You can burn a grand to 1500 easily doing mods to a 50cc scoot, if you put that towards a classic you could have a chance of getting some back when you move it on.

A 70cc cylinder kit triples the hp easily but it runs out of gears (racing 87cc kits get 30hp). To get the most out of your new cylinder you need the supporting parts like bigger carb with pod filter, pipe, cdi (if yours is restricted), change the front variator outer half and longer drive belt to change the gearing a little. Then it needs to be jetted carefully or it melts itself together.
