Wilson has 48 parks in the CBD , and in the past it's free motorcycle parking if you "find a gap". I don;t think you'll be put out that much, more a case of having to find new parks.
Or you could take the car in...... :scooter:

Just spent about 20min on the phone with Tournament, the gist of it is that it's always been in their terms and conditions for motorcycles to pay and that its just more recently they've planned to enforce it. You can park there at the discounted rate of $50/month or $75/month across multiple carpark buildings and the space allocated will be a motorcycle spot, casual parking will be charged at the same rate as for a car but it is a per vehicle charge not per park and you're welcome to take a car place.
They have no interest in putting up signage to alert casual parkers to the change (& difference to other parking buildings) instead you'll be slapped with a $45? fee for non compliance. They have no interest in giving first time offenders a warning, instead they're quite happy to hit you in the wallet you've been "getting away without paying for long enough".
They suggest we purchase holders similar to those for wof/rego with padlocks to display the casual parking tickets
Also spoke with wilsons, they don't charge and have no plans to. The only condition is you stay to the corners/unused space and don't take paying car spots.
Hmm, should I ring him back as looking at the Terms and Conditions (apparently these are only for account holders), motorcycles aren't accounted for...
http://www.tournament.co.nz/content/terms_conditions.aspx
33.1.8. “Vehicle” means a passenger car in the ordinary sense of the word, and includes a station wagon, van, ute or four wheel drive vehicle, and includes any accessories or contents of such a motor vehicle. The term does not include a light or heavy truck, a trailer, a caravan or a motorbike

You folks could take a leaf out of notobiketax and role up one day at their entrance and charge them to enter their building

Went for a tiki tour of 3 of the Tournament parks nearby.
The terms displayed for casual parking (one place didn't even have these) define a vehicle as
25.1.6. “Vehicle” means a passenger car in the ordinary sense of the word, and includes a station wagon, van, ute or four wheel drive vehicle, and includes any accessories or contents of such a motor vehicle. The term does not include a light or heavy truck, a trailer or a caravan.
They can choose to lose my custom when i do drive into the city, but what annoys me is that at two of the parks the employees told me Bikes are free for casual parking (the other said the same rate as cars).
Given they plan to start enforcement tomorrow this is sure to lead to alot of unneccessary bs. It would be much easier if they just put up a couple of placards saying "Motorcycles MUST take a ticket", just as the city council has signage instructing riders not to take a ticket in its buildings. Will they... probably not.

Is it true that these tickets aren't actually enforceable? Or something along those lines.

That's what I'd like to know - seems to me that can't be, unless they bully you into paying.
Of course, OP, you could just ride in, take a ticket from the machine and ride around the barriers on the way out. Just to fuck with them.

They'll probably be clamping vehicles, can't fine you iirc (well they can "fine" you the cost of the parking). Clamping I think they can but shouldn't as their T&C for parking only cover passenger cars at the moment...
Will have to have a followup call tomorrow, manager there didnt want to talk to me again yesterday. Tbh the impression i've gotten so far is that they'd be happier to catch people out than let them willingly pay to park there.

They'd probably respond to that argument by saying if you're vehicle isn't in the T's&C's then you shouldn't be parking there and we have every right to clamp or fine you yada yada wank wank etc.

Is it true that these tickets aren't actually enforceable? Or something along those lines.Correct. But they can remove the vehicle as it is private property. If they clamp it you're entitled to have the clamp removed and if they won't, you can remove it yourself. In theory, the vehicle should be released to you immediately on your taking possession of it, making clamping or towing completely pointless, but they'll do everything they can to avoid doing that unless you pay some exorbitant fee. Don't do it.
They take possession of your vehicle under the principle of "distress damage feasant" and are entitled only to consideration for any actual loss resulting from your action of parking there. Arguably, that's little more than the parking fee itself and perhaps a nominal administration charge for their trouble. if they tow it, then a fair charge for the towage. But you'll hear of private operators charges $200+ for that while a Council tow for parking where you're not supposed to is much more modest.
It's time the law was tightened up around these rogues to stop them making people think they can fine them. They can't. Only the court can fine you and only a government authority can issue you with an infringement offence notice.

How about - they've been letting bikes park there without charge for ever, now they are suddenly going to start fining people from today without any warning.
Legal? maybe Ethical? No.

Don't forget theres nearly 60 other "secure*" carparks in the CBD that are free (Wilsons and Auckland City). And don't forget there's roadside parking as well.
While it was nice to have tournament parking as free, if they want to charge, no one is really forcing you to use them, just need to walk a bit further to work from another park, or not pass that hot blond in the coffee shop each morning :(

I'm fine with them charging but its a bit on the nose to strike out at the casual users who have no idea the "rules" have changed.

I agree but i am a casual user and yes i have choice and i chose to look elsewhere for my parking needs... no way will I pay the car rate to park a bike..
And whoever said Get a Job.. YES i do have a job thanks..
Tournament have made a lot of money from me parking my car in the past but i will try my best to avoid them where ever possible.

I hope this doesn't mean other carparks in the CBD will start charging for motorbikes!
but yeah there are heaps of other carparks,so will just park there instead.
This thread is a few years old.... is tournament still charging monthly and wilson and council ones still free? (even if you leave it there for a few days overnight?)

Two weekends ago at an AT bike commuting safety course, the AT representative said there were over a hundred free bike parks in the four ACC parking buildings in the city and no intention of converting them to pay spaces. 80 spaces alone on the top floor of the Downtown Car park building.

AWESOME! And you can leave your bike there overnight for a week of nights in a row? As I might find myself only using my bike once a week.

Hi all, just picked this up now. We've just moved offices to Anzac Ave in Auckland, is the Wilsons still free for bikes? Went for a walk yesterday and no people in there to ask, didn't see any bikes either. Cheers team.

All the Wilson's carparks operate via a central call centre. You can have a chat to one of their operators via any of the pay machines or the entry/exit columns. I would check with them just in case as they do have people roving their carparks sorting stuff out etc.
