View Full Version : Another U-turning Copper (yay!)

Coming back from Otorohanga this morning. Just out of town I got that flapping feeling that meant I hadn't done up the chin strap...(again).
So I pulled left and stopped to fix it up. At which point the radar detector fires up and a Highway Patrol car comes pootling past me - heading same way as me. "Bugger! Looks like the fang will be a pootle" I thinks.
I waited a coupla minutes and got back on the road. Wasn't long before I saw him ahead. Sitting at about 99km/hr. Just slow enough to make me look like as hoon if I tried an overtake. "Oh well," I thought, "a nice gentle pootle home. I might get to see the countryside up the right way instead of on a tilt."
Couple of clicks further on - he's heading up the hill and a red car comes fanging down past him in the opposite direction. HP pulls the classic U-turn. Not a problem from my direction - I had about 500m of clear view, but had another vehicle come down the hill like the red one, he may have been in a spot of bother since he was not all that far from a corner. But nothing arrived, so he completed the turn. The disco lights flare up and he's off in pursuit!
I did give him a friendly wave - just before I booted it for home.
Nice when that happens. Special thanks to the driver of the red car. I do hope his fine was not excessive!

I had a red car moment myself on Sunday last. I was out for a ride with the wife on the back heading between Ashurst and Feilding when I over took two cars doing about 95kph (the cars not me) and when I got along side the front RED car I could see the blue/grey overalls with the NZ Police logo on the shoulder. It was one of those holy crap moments.
All I can say is that I am wiser now..

The driver of the speeding car might have had a boot load of children in the back or was on his way to steal the VC's at that war museum. The cop made the right call.

Cops often cruise the Northern M/way at less than 100km/h, usually between 90-95. I never slow down and always overtake, being amazed that no-one seems brave enough to do anything but meekly follow. I've never been pulled over for this. I make sure my speedo is reading under 110, though.

I would be more concerned about the cop on a bkie we saw two weekends ago heading south out of Pirongia. Even waved until I realised it was painted the wrong colour scheme!

At 90 - 95 I'd have no problem passing either. But this dude was 99 - 100 pretty much on the button. Makes it a little dodgier...'specially early in the morning - his quota was probably still on zero at that time of the day...

I wave to cop bikes, they are still bikes. Some of the reactions are priceless though. One looked like he would just about fall off :D

I sometimes wave to cop cars and get an equally suspicious reaction. Why's this biker doing 100kph and waving at us???? :sherlock:

UrbanDictionary.com define this behaviour as "A police chase".
Big queue of cars all chasing a patrol car.
I kinda like it.

Love the bike cops
Got to follow one up and over the harbour bridge in 60-70 traffic like they were obstacle cones, never even indicated. Kinda like an escort. If he does it, I can to (Albeit with indicators).
Must've had a call from above, waved to me with a smile and booted that fucker like nobodies business towards taka.

I usually wave to bikes when I am in a marked car.
Love the reactions I get at times.

OK - I'll tell ya what it is...it's a one handed handstand on the handle bars - with legs crossed. Preferably done in a tight corner at warp factor five or more.
Easy eh?
