Spada cam chain?

hey guys recently bought me a spada from colemans suzuki and have been reading around that they may have cam chain issues?
mines done 50,000 didnt come with service history but oil looks good
any way of telling when chain needs doing?

and also what are some mods the spada will benefit from/
currently got a pirrelli sport demon up front and a dunlop arrow max? on the back
forks are pretty soft any good shops in auckland to get them sussed
1 last thing any readily available aftermarket cans thatsuit it nicley?

Ditch the arrowmax as soon as, Ive got Bridgestones on mine & its being raced....
Heavier weight fork oil,unless youre the size of a jap midget....15wt in mine now .About the only other thing to do with the frontend is to get new springs, Robert Taylor on here is the man for that otherwise it gets expensive with drilling holes etc. Or you end up fluffing about cuttin springs & making preload spacers which can all be a tad dodgey if youre a newbie,The oil thats in them if still original wont look like oil no more:sick:
Best thing for any motor is regular oil & filter changes, & try & do it every 5k & learn to do it yourself as any thing you can do yourself will save you money.
Clean the air filter....
Hadnt heard about the cam chain being an issue but hey i hadnt heard.
Best performance mod is to learn to ride it properly!! Do a trackday.
Ducatilover on here had one & he's done allsorts off fiddling on his like turbo & jets etc which Ive not done any of on mine.
Theyre a sweet bike & corner nicely with a frame which was so ahead of its time that they cant afford to make 'em like that no more & use a cheezy steel now..
They also perform quite well around 9 thou or more on the rev counter ....:innocent:

I believe 50K is the recommended mileage for cam chain/tensioner replacement.
You will know if it's needing done, as the engine will have a sewing machine-like clatter. Same sort of sound as if all your tappets were loose.
Be warned though...replacing the chains etc is very expensive. Great engines they might be, but they are not for the home handyman.

Mine did well over 100,000 HARD km with no replacement chain.

Like Puddytat said, regular oil changes are the tits.

Pirelli sport demons on both ends are a sure thing.

You can drop the forks through the triple clamps up to 25mm :shit:

And you will need either new springs, or cut with spacers to stiffen them up.

This is not a magic trick, its just relatively better than what the OEM bits will provide.

Also what was mentioned, learn to ride it, I used to have good battles through tight stuff with my buddy on his zxr250. (not that I condone racing on tight twisty fun roads, oh no, not at all.)
