Gidday

In an effort to be a model of efficiency, I put my wee bike up for auction on TM about a week out from being eligible to sit the full licence test. Unbeknownst to me, the AA have a policy of unnecessarily delaying anyone who has a pulse, and the earliest test I could book was march the 1st.

So: Auction complete, bike is gone, and I'm at a bit of a loss for the licence test  I'd wondered about approaching a dealer to see if I could test ride something at 9am on march 1...I've tried to find somewhere i might be able to hire a bike but it's all looking a bit dire. I'm in Hamilton, sitting the test at Five Xroads...

Can anyone think of a cunning Plan B to replace my shortsighted plan A? Cheers!

If you can't find a bike you could use mine. Girlfriend won't be happy about it but its only for a few hours and its not hers anyway!

Cunning plan V.2

Buy a 250 that has WOF but needs some work that you are able to do.
Fix up bike while you wait for the day of reckoning.
Use to get the license.
Sell for more than you bought it for.

Girls friends are rarely happy about much and then you make them a wife and they are happy about nothing. You've been warned.

Can't have my bike, well not until after 11 am. I'm taking my 6F myself at 8.00 am Tuesday March 1st.

Best of luck ops.normal. Talk to you later on the 1/3/11

My advice is too late to be useful - but when I found I couldn't book tests within a reasonable time frame, I persisted and got them to check other more distant venues. I did both mine in Masterton within a couple of days, rather than a couple of weeks in Wellington. I did have to rent a bike for my full, because my 250 had died by then, but that's a different issue.

Thanks rwh, they told me (after a little pushing) that their system takes into account the other venues, and I'd be best to book online - transact.nzta.etc.etc

So on the 17th of Feb (25 yrs, 1 day ;) ) I'm on there and the earliest place I could book was the 1st of march, at 5 cross rds, hamilton. I checked auckland, tokoroa, huntly, morrinsville, cambridge, otorohonga, tekuiti and taupo, and rotorua. Then I rang them, and she said that was the case, and that cancellations would enter the system and then be snapped up, so it wasn't like I could go on a waiting list or anything.

I'm glad the government pays them, cause if I was paying their bills I'd be fairly dark by now...

Thanks all, otherwise :D Boyd suzuki have come through with a cheapish rental, and I consider the cost of that to be my fine for impatience ;)
