WELLINGTON DOWN SYNDROME ASSOCIATION
FAMILY WALK FUN DAY
TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY 20TH MARCH 2011
AT HARCOURT PARK UPPER HUTT
They are asking if anyone would be able to bring their bikes for the kids to sit on for photos. Most of these kids have never even sat on one and this would make their day. We will charge a small fee of 50 cents per photo and all proceeds will go to the WDSA. Anyone interested??? It's for a great cause. These guys get zero funding from the government. Would be between 11am and 12pm bbq provided dollar a sausie.

Maybe someone with a nice race bike might like to take it down, the kids might get a kick out of sitting on a real race bike!

An hour isn't long enough for this :) might as well say 11am onwards aye? make it a good day out of it. This money will go towards swimming, speech therapy etc etc as The down syndrome does not get ANY FUNDING...... So maybe I should try to organise a annual Down Syndrome bike ride???? Who would I talk to about that. anyone?

Organising events is very easy, all you need is great idea (you have got that part covered) now you need the right people to get in behind that idea and make it happen, any more than say 3-4 people and you start to run into trouble. Keep it simple and try not to expand or wander to far from the original idea. Basically thats it.

I'm thinking RANGI
I was thinking something real cool like nice Repsol Honda or a sexy Ducati or something, not a shitty little MB100 (I can't believe I just called my Rangi shitty, but he's really not that impressive when you compare him to a GSXR in full race trim, as much as that really does pain me to say) ;)
Oh and I'll be racing that day.

Been thinking about this one, inviting some kids out to see the bikes one day while we are out and about. I dunno, have a bit of a dya trip and stop off at some places just for a show, might work eh

On Sunday 20th March 2011 the Wellington Down Syndrome Association (WDSA) is having a Family fun walk day in conjunction with world down syndrome day.
Walking any distance can be challenging for many people living with Down syndrome. Our family walk is designed to give these special individuals a chance to walk alongside their families and Concluding with a barbecue, picnic and fun day all held at Upper Hutt’s Harcourt Park Upper Hutt.
Anyone can participate in the Family Fun Walk and its purpose is three-fold:
• Brings families together
• Promotes awareness of Down syndrome within the wider community by celebrating these people through a fully joint event.
• Assists in raising funds for the Wellington Down Syndrome Association (WDSA) who in turn provide support and information for families
Statistically approximately one in 700 to 1000 live births is affected by Down syndrome. It crosses gender, race and socio-economic level and is the most frequently occurring chromosomal abnormality. However people living with Down syndrome have their own gifts and can live very full lives with community help and support.
In order for the family Walk to take place the Wellington Down Syndrome Association (WDSA) needs support from businesses and the local community. The Wellington Down Syndrome Association (WDSA) is a non profit organisation and receives no government funding and is entirely dependant on donations and the goodwill of people like you.
Your support can help in the following ways:
• Prizes for our raffles
• A monetary donation towards the organisation of this event
• Volunteering to assist on the day
To show our sincere appreciation for you assistance, we will in turn provide free advertising for your business including:
• Your business signage displayed (please provide us with suitable signage)
• Recognition of your business on our website
• Recognition of your business in the Wellington Down Syndrome Association (WDSA) newsletter
• Your business provided promotional mater can be distributed during the event
The family Walk is a positive, fun and heart-warming day and I welcome your company/organisation to become involved and for you and your family and friends to attend. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require more information.
Thank you for your support
