It sounds like whatever engine they've got too many sitting around at the time gets forced into a monster frame.

Except they created a whole new monster for the 1098 called the Diavel:eek:

I've seen a few projects online where they put 1098 engines in 996 frames.

Apparently the engine mounting points have stayed exactly the same from 916 through 1198.

Yeah I've seen those as well. I bet that will all change with the new symetrical vertical 90 degree motor going into the new superbike. That might make it even harder to check the rear (both vertical now) cylinder valves.

What's a symmetrical vertical 90 degree motor?

I haven't read anything about the next generation engine yet.

Still 90 degree but not the "L" twin. Sits in the chassis like Aprilia, hardly dangerous, etc etc

So are they rotating the engine backwards, so that the rear cylinder is more at a 45 degree angle?

That would make sense, then they can move the engine further forward for more weight on the front?

That looks almost like a list of the four valve versions. The Monster also came in two valve versions at the same time: S2 etc. The 1100 is a two valve and I think the 796(?), they don't make the four valve Monsters any more. These days we have the Streetfighter instead.

2 valve list was quoted by thread starter apart from the 750, 796 and 1100:bleh:

I don't think a Monster engine will fit in a GL145:rolleyes:

I have a 1995 2 valve 900,

It has the Elephant Castings on most of the parts as it was made in the Cagiva/Ducati era.

Dont know much about that business partnership tho

No they will use a modular gear train driven directly off the crankshaft up the side of each cylinder with the top one driving two small chains driving both overhead camshafts individualy.
See attached

That looks pretty cool. Is the illustration just speculations from magazine?

Scheduled to be launched at the Milan show this year so factual I would say. Its the same chassis that was patented by Ducati February 2010.

Before the BDOTGNZA shows up you might want to edit that to read 'cheque'.
