So this morning in Windy Wellington, in Tennyson street, me and another biker are getting ready to park up in the bike rank, and see that three bikes are blown over. Actually, just one bike had blown over (a tall grey on/offroad bike) and taken two more bikes with it. So we set-to and pick the bikes up, only the one that must have fallen over first is still rockin' in the wind. So we turn it 180 degrees so it's being blown onto the kickstand. And then, to be ultra-nice, I take my NC35 RVF-400 and park it close (not touching though) so if his bike goes over again, my bike will catch it pretty quick.

Now my top-fairing is toast - big impact to the top-right, no damage elsewhere, looks like a fist or boot has gone through it. I know it was not a pretty fairing - been rebuilding it and adding topcoats and filler for a while now, it was a work in progress, waiting for a final rub-down and sprayjob. Now it's in pieces.

UPDATE: met the KLE owner - his bike was moved again to a spot outside the bike rank, and damaged again. We had a straight-up chat - it looks like there's a third biker involved somehow, this guy was honest. Trouble is we all look the same in our bike gear. I guess its time to fix a fairing. Thanks for the opportunity to vent, KB

Honestly, if my bike had blown over, i'd rather it be left as is, rather than take the risk of someone standing it up, and possibly leading to more damage by it blowing over again.

Not all the dorks are in cars. (Hope you get justice, and he gets a grip.)

The 'domino effect' was still in [slow] motion - while I watched, a fourth bike was getting ready to go. It was a call. We made sure the first bike _could not_ fall again.

Man, that sux. I guess the on/offroad bike had a bit of damage from falling over and the owner may have thought that you had knocked his bike over. If you are going to be a good samaritan again, and I hope that you will be, I'd suggest leaving a little note on the bike to say that you came along and the bike had already blown over and was leaking petrol so you picked it up and turned it around so it wouldn't happen again.
But yeah, hope it works out well in the end. It's shit like this that casts doubt on the whole concept of karma

yeah, the note was intended but you know how hard it is to leave the office again once the troops know you're onsite :msn-wink: it was 2:30 before I even got a quick coffee

Yaaaay someone actually taking action first and THEN coming on KB to share, not just whining about it!
Hopefully now the plonker can pay for new fairings and you won't need to bother with the work you were doing on it :niceone:

I would also watch your back. This arsehole could also come after you for dobbing him in as it sounds like he has major issues with anger management.
Good on you for doing the right thing. I hope it all come good.

Good on you for trying to help the stupid prick, and the other two bikers :2thumbsup:. Probably thought you had turned him around to get your bike in, that is the prick reacted, didn't think and it still not a reason to smash someones bike! :argh:

I'd prefer a fellow biker to pick my bike up rather than leaving it laying on its side.

Good on ya and good luck tracking down that bad man.

Common sense isn't it,bike over fuel leaking, next thing a heap of bikes go up in flames as a dickhead flicks a match.

And maybe you could leave a note with cops stating why you picked his bike up to give to the wanker, and find out if he is a kber, name the prat.

It would be amusing if a "Some prick moved my bike so he could fit his primered shitheap into my park" thread started......

This is the reason I pay to park my bike in a building. Doesn't get blown over!

Hopefully the prat pays up, nothing worse than repairing something then getting it smashed again.

Good luck.

P.S. Name the idiot, where he parks his bike, bike rego etc etc.

LOL Wouldn't it, we'd know what to tell them though!
I'd rather that someone stood my fallen over bike backup. Rather than take the risk of further damge or deliberate negligence by some passing arsehole.
While not many of us carry pen and paper a note migh have gone some way to avoiding the outburst and your damage.
Something though tells me that this jerk, saw his bike and yours, put two and two together and in typiclal KB rider fashion got 6 and lashed out.
I sincerely hope he's parked there again today and would like to hear the results later on tonight.

I picked up a scooter yesterday - these little bikes always seem to have shitty stands, and never lean enough to counteract the wind. I left a note, but made sure a mate was there when I moved it.
I guess that if you spend bugger all on your bike (and some of them are wrecks) you dont really care about the other bikes around you in the park.....

nah, no closer to the mystery. met the KLM owner, he had some odd tampering with his bike after we sorted it out, someone moved it ten feet.

Mate, that would piss me off. I've picked up blown over bikes before, didn't think it would be that big a deal to some, but you never can tell.

haha, i park my scooter next to the Hornet in that bike park in hopes of cushioning it from an unfortunate wind induced fall.... sweet bike, I want one:niceone:

My only comment on the OP's story is: whats wrong with people that suprises and angers them when the wind blows over their bike? Come on its windy welly! The idea of the wind knocking it over is no different than the idea that at some point in your riding history, you will come off the bike. Its just going to happen, IMHO.

Street parking in Wellington is so scarce you simply can't afford to leave a fallen bike taking up two spaces!

not just wellington, when I had a 250 it got blown over outside work about a week after I had got a new shiny exhaust, typical

What about this for a scenario.

The dudes bike fell over again, this time smashing your fairing. Someone else picked it up and moved it further away from all the other bikes.

There. That wasn't hard was it?

I wouldn't touch anyone elses bike without their permission as they may accuse me of phucking with it, unless it's blocking the road or otherwise creating a hazard.

Probably a handlebar end that punched the hole. ABS or even fibreglass fairings etc are pretty tough, I wouldn't attempt to punch a hole with my fist if I had hopes of using that hand again.
