Bit o History

Probably the longest continuous group - formed pre WW2. These guys have sung duets with everyone - they are the real bloody deal....

Mavis Staples is one of the Staples Family Singers. She has really had a come back of late but if you are interested in social history and the civil rights movement then this woman and her family were right there at the pivot point.

Looks like the ChCh show was cancelled so I wonder if they will do an Auckland one?

Either way - mate jump on a plane with the missus - she would love a weekend in wellie and lets face it, Mavis Staples and her family did so much for civil rights. Without it, the resurcence in Maori culture might not have happened yet. Tell her its a Hikoi to a cultural event...

Naaa .. the problem is she doesn't travel well ... she would love the concert if it was just down the road ... but nto if she has to travel ...

That's how I get to go out on the bikes by myself ... so there's a bit of a trade off ... but I'd better spend a couple fo weekends with her ..
