The forks in those VTR are very crude & although you've just splashed out money for a new bike be aware that external clicker adjustment isn't going to improve their action much & harshness over stutter bumps won't be improved. Paying money to look at that is a bit of a waste. Fun bike but hampe5ed by accountants choosing suspension parts. 'Fully adjustable' is a misnomer.

Uprated Racetech parts would be nice if you got a decent deal on the bike & want to enjoy it more. Best time to invest is for the longest part of ownership. ie now.
CKT are only a courier bag away & you will see Roberts posts on this site.

Sheeeesh man...the guy didn't say he wanted to go GP racing, merely get it 'set up' better for him I'd say.

fitting pistons that will actually flow oil instead of hydraulic locking will make it a better road bike able to absorb bumps. That is the issue with the vtr and no-one said anything about racing

With all respect I was just stating whats actually wrong with the bike. External adjustments will achieve little as fundamentally the internals are very basic and will semi hydraulic lock over bumpy surfaces.

Robert...I'm sure you're a good bloke. Lots of people here and in real life say you are. I personally don't know you, nor you me. But you really need to get out more. Just because I stated that the VTR owner only wanted to set his suspension up, and didn't need it to be GP spec due to F5 Daves post, doesn't mean you need to jump on it...and any other thread/post about suspension and take it so seriously/personally. Lighten up.

And lets leave that at that please. If anyone else has advice to offer go ahead but leave the arguments to another thread. Or not at all.

As there are no sidecar threads at the moment this will have to do.

The best place to go in Wellington is in New Plymouth.

Why don't you come by Wellington Motorcycles when you get a moment, ask for me (Pete), I'll happily come out and have a wee look at you VTR, spend some time sussing out what it is you like/don't like about it, and see what we may be able to do for you?

Pete

Thanks guys.

I'm a pretty big guy and the previous owner was a women and she had it setup for her so at this stage I'd just like the factory suspension setup for me and get some ideas on what to do next

MAte you got a girls bike then!!!!!! Sorry - I had to say it! :bleh:

Nice bike.

I reckon you need someone to help twiddle the stock bits and a change of fork fluid should make an improvement.

And I'm sure if we need to do some simple and cheap mods to get it better suited to your size etc we could very easily.

Katman...I see you're reading this thread and adding your fav lil tag. Care to chip in with a post...or too busy asking GUYS to suck your cock?

I think its just appropriate that any information offered is in no way misleading, either intentionally or non intentionally. There was an inference that some of the available solutions were too close to racing spec, and I sought to refute that without choosing to turn it into an argument. My opening line to Peter fairly reflects that and the pot was needlessly stirred by Jimmy. But I bear no malice to either of them, nor should I..

Funny, I was outside their door in the late hours of Thursday taking a leak down the alley after a skinful of beer. I'm sure I saw a motorcycle in the window

That's my excuse anyway
