Thats pretty cool man, but doesnt that sorta defeat the purpose of Mountain biking?

I can see that you can still pedal but common, you may as well ride a dirt bike....

Think of it more as an electric dirt bike with pedals so you can get home after a flat battery has left you stranded several kays from the car park...

There's a couple of similar bikes on the market already, they look more like a mountain bike than a dirt bike simply because the MTB gear they tend to use is lighter and works adequately in that situation. The only drawback I've seen with those bikes is the battery life is still an issue, meaning it's all too easy to get stranded. It's not like you can drain a litre or two of gas out of your mate's bike to get you home.

Yeah for sure im up to date on what they are trying to do on the dirt bike scene, with Zero and KTM leading the way, but this just seems odd to have an electric MB and for the price, im not sure is even worth it.

yeah its all a lot of tosh. To generate any extra electricity we need to fire up more gas burning power stations which are not 100% efficient so you need to burn more to create less energy. So the zero emissions label is a lie. Good luck getting resource consent for more hydro electric.

Advantage is noise. Trials bikes which can play in limited space & swap batteries to keep the weight down is the application.

Of course it's tosh, much like those half-witted eco warriors that think they are saving the planet by driving a Prius... which during it's complete lifecycle (including manufacture and disposal) will emit more CO2 than a V8 Land Rover Discovery.

They look pretty light and flickable but battery power is the killer - my MX mates with their little gas tanks need to bring extra fuel as it is - wake me up when one of these things can run 5 hrs+ without recharge, although one thing I do like about electric motors is that they have plenty of torque which is always a good idea.
