"A motorcyclist has been given a six-month suspended jail sentence for pulling a wheelie and speeding at 149mph on the M2 in Kent."
"He was ordered to do 200 hours’ unpaid work, banned for 18 months and told he must take an extended retest.... He was charged £85 court costs."
149mph = 248kph for the mathematically challenged. :pinch: (EDIT: as pointed out in a post below... it is actually 239.79kph )
All caught on video by an unmarked police bike.

Looked like the rider chose reasonably clear bits of lane unlike the clown that killed the motorcyclists in the last 2 paragraphs.

Looks like the only real reason he's speeding is because he saw the undercover police bike and it starts following/tailgating him. Just a legal form of entrapment I'm guessing. Granted he should have the self control not to race every motorbike that he sees.

I did over 150mph on UK motorways quite a few times, its not a big deal really ... they are so straight and wide that you have plenty or time and vision if anything is ahead.

Hmmmm, that's good, speeding is more thoroughly punished than murder in the U.K. I imagine it would'nt be much different over here......oh wait it's not (Thinking of the lady that murdered the cyclists recently.....).

The hair has been split.
I'll make it real simple for the clever folk. Yes I realise it's manslaughter when not on-purpose. I thought it would be obvious that I consider poor weapon control and lack of attention when using one grossly negligent and deserving murder charges rather than manslaughter. Merely my opinion, i'm not trying to convert you or anyone else. Hopefully that simplifies it for you. No need for further debate on that I don't think.

Pah, murder by definition requires (for the most part) premeditation.

He may have got a suspended sentence. Others haven't.
The truck driver that continued to drive whilst tired (premeditated) who killed Mrs Lobster's brother when he fell asleep served four months in prison.
Speeding in the UK is a cash cow. Nothing more.

Bet the cop enjoyed the chase.
Agreed, he had plenty of time to pull the guy over after clearly seeing him breaking the speed limit.
The officer who was riding the unmarked bike said "This motorcyclist had a total disregard for the road and other riders. The consequences of Bleach's riding could have been so much worse.”
Well he should have pulled him over sooner in that case.

The copper was doin like 140mph to catch up to him... If its so dangerous surely he shouldn't of reached those speeds and would of had to call for back up? I thought if you broke the speed limit the world will catch on fire and you'll be responsible for the death of everyone? Meh seems like they make it out that bad.
And why does he need retraining? Seems like a pretty competant rider to me...

If he'd pulled him over sooner it wouldn't have been nearly as juicy a ticket. Come on, the cop was only doing his job and pinging someone for 10 kmh over the speed limit isn't nearly as satisfying as waiting (encouraging?) for them to do 149 mph.

As far as the killing goes, a manslaughter is usually a killing which is unintentional, unanticipated or results from recklessness.
A murder would usually require intent or "criminal negligence". In other words doing something illegal which results in a death could be considered murder even without the intent factor.

This comment sums it up really...
''He was doing 149mph. That's >40mph above the immediate ban point.
He got nicked. Tough f*cking luck mate. He knew the risks. He did it anyway.
Stop whinging: Stop blaming the police, the government, the courts, the EU, car drivers, the tooth fairy. He knew exactly what he was doing but cracked-on regardless. It's not bad luck that he was caught - it's a simple calculation of probability. 149mph? What did he expect - 30 minutes of community service and a 60 quid fine?
We all do it. He got caught (on camera), that's just life, squire. Nothing unfair about it''.
This is priceless..'' Stop blaming the police, the government, the courts, the EU, car drivers, the tooth fairy''

Gross negligence can be murder, but in general negligence just results in manslaughter. Recklessness that is reasonably foreseeable to result in a persons death could be murder.

further on from the tooth fairy....
I blame global warming...
He had his carbs tuned for the less dense air global warming was going to produce, unfortunately its been cold since so the bike has been running way off song so he was used to giving it plenty of throttle with little result. I would hazard a guess in true KB style that on the day in question it was a hot day so the bike was running on song catching him out with sudden but unintentional bursts of power.
I think the bastard is a public hero for controlling such a feral bike.
The courts just don't understand bikes and bikers.

Geez mate careful, our government might think it was a good idea. Last thing we need is all our speed zones dropping another 10 or so km/h.
Takes long enough as it is to get to work! Two zones here to SH1 have already been reduced 20km/h each. Pine Valley Road and the Waitoki township. Both needless, except directly outside the school.
If people took it easier with braking and acceleration, they will find they make good savings there alone. Top speed cruising is fairly immaterial for 10km/h differences - I measure my fuel use at various incremental speeds to test it.

You would hope the NZ government would get out their calculators and add up the energy costs of changing all the signs in the country first, its only a temporary measure and they are planning to change back in 4 months time. Not to mention the fact that everyone ignores the speedlimit anyway.

I have seen much worse... at least the guy had lane discipline. However, it is hard to argue with the police pulling him over, it isn't like they could just let him be. However, I do think the wording from the one cop was a tad harsh. I don't really think he was as much of a menace to society as the cop would have you believe. By what he said, I was expecting something like either Ghostrider or those crazy canyon carvers in Greece. This dude was tame with some quick spurts.... otherwise he just kinda bobbed along quickly.

Ok Rossi.
Some of us have been around here for a while and there is a bit of a history with very fast road riding that ended badly for quite a few of our mates. Some of the rides I have been on make that clown look slow and lame. The fact is, there is always a time and a place for letting it loose, that guy chose badly. With the increase in cops around the roads, people out on the roads etc, increasingly the only place for a wild ride is at a track.

However I do everything I can to remove the danger factor from my riding. Tell me I am full of shit or am a pussy if you like, but I would rather ride for the rest of my life than ride like a twat and injure myself / someone else or worse yet, kill myself.
If I want to ride fast, ill go to the track and make a day of it. This way I then remove as much of the danger as I can of high speed riding.

I wouldnt call someone pussy for trying to remove danger out of riding... so if you get your thrill from riding on a track thats probably the best way to do it. (personaly i enjoy trackdays too)
Some people like Mr.149mph probably need to zoom between "parked" cars on the m-way to get their daily fix....

Well isnt it why people do the fast riding in a first place? Because its fun and it can possibly end up very badly? But i do agree his choice of location for that kind of speed wasnt very clever...
Yes, the thrill of the speed, for me it is to make my mind work quickly to ensure that the bike is managed efficiently and smoothly. Can't say that I enjoy riding fast because of the risk of me being killed, but yet I do enjoy risk... it certainly would not be a thrill if there were no risk as the law of risk vs return would mean that the reward (thrill) would in turn be lower.
I think it is more the adrenalin rush that comes with risk than the risk itself that is appealing. I enjoy the adrenalin and letting go (as outlined in Fight Club) but the idea of death does not appeal so much.
However, this can easily be managed by keeping the insane stuff for the track and being easy / moderate stuff on the road. Don't always have to ride fast to enjoy riding you know. Also, I would hate for someone else to suffer because I was so selfish that a thrill cost them something. (Could be me gone from my family, could be me killing someone else and their family losing them or whatever).

I suppose to summarise, one should get their adrenalin fix if it suits them, but this should not be at the cost of someone else.
