Stolen number plate

So last night some wanker stole my number plate off the back of my bike. Not a big deal cos i have a new one now (the cops and VTNZ were really good about the whole thing too)

but if anyone has/does see a bike with the rego A3FGQ feel free to smack him in the head :angry:

Um you do realise that they will replace your plate with the same one again (at least I think they do). Just a heads up in case you are sitting at the lights one day and someone clobbers you from behind...

Don't think you get the same one, or at least I didn't when the popo told me mine was too huckory (I assume stolen is the same procedure). Easier for em to pull a random one out and change the registration than make you a new old one!

I think it was stolen for 1 of 2 reasons.


1. for stealing gas / stolen bike

2. for the lols

either way not much is ever going to come of it, hopefully no damage to bike was done!

Yup they gave a new plate number and rego card.

It was taken in Manurewa, south Auckland. Guess thats what you get for being "Rewa hard bro" :gob:

I had a similar a problem when a number plate was stolen off my car years ago. I reported it stolen. Big mistake. It caused me years of grief. They can't register just the plate as stolen - they register the whole vehicle, including your VIN.

When I got a new plate, it was registered against the car, and whenever anyone looked up my new plate, it came up as stolen. They had to go further into the system to see the note that it wasn't the vehicle that was stolen, but a former plate that was.
However cops, banks, finance, companies, etc, just see the flashing "STOLEN" sign on their screen. Often the banks and finance companies didn't get access to the Police notes to see the explanation. I ended up having to carry around a hand written letter I got a Police officer to write for me to explain the situation.

I tried to get the stolen status withdrawn by the Police, but they said I couldn't.

I heard an urban myth about some guys who crept up to the front of a speed detection van and removed the rego plate. They bolted it on their car and zoomed passed the van, which dutifully took a photo of its own plate.

You report it LOST ... get a set of new plates ($20 and change from memory) ... done ...

No long explanations to anybody ...

Pretty crazy how a set of new plates is about $17 but a set of personalised plates is $839 :blink::shit::shutup:

I had to get a new plate last week, because the one on the bike wasn't an original tin one.

One form, took in the old plate, and was about $13 from AA for a new plate / new number

In Manurewa? Well, there's a surprise...not.
I will keep an eye out if it's being used around here.
