Earthquakes
I live in lovely Christchurch.
Septembers quake rendered my house broken and over the 100k payout so my insurance company is in charge of making a decision on it's future.
EQC & Insurance
I'd called EQC a couple days ago to lodge an additional claim after the big Tuesday mess, and I was told the house was settled in September so that could not be claimed again but she added additional land damage. Fair enough I thought.
I phoned my insurance company today to ask how it was going as we have received additional damage late last month (Black Tuesday). Actually Boxing Day, Jan 20 etc all caused additional damage to the existing cracks and movement. Hell if I have a good curry and let one rip I am pretty sure the walls move a bit more ....
Anyway the Insurance company said I need to lodge a new claim on the house despite having received the full EQC payment on in in December. I stated what EQC had said and the insurance lady told me to ring them back otherwise the extra damage 'may not be' covered by insurance (how the hell they will only part way fix or rebuild a buggered house is beyond me!).
I called EQC again. To my surprise I was answered by a very competent young lady who was happy to add my house to the claim (again) as she said that insurance companies are going to try and get more money from EQC to cover the extra damage and the lady I'd spoken to earlier in the week was wrong.
So - if you are in Christchurch and in a situation similar to mine please call EQC or go on line and lodge another claim against you broken home especially if it is over the 100k mark to ensure your arse is fully covered.
Whores.
I read today that the street walkers in Christchurch are doing a roaring trade servicing the people who are doing the inspections etc within the CBD - apparently they need a bit of light relief after a hard (ahem) shift.
Funny old world!
