View Full Version : Ride Sunday 26/6/05 up North - SLOW!!!!

FEINT

SLOW RIDE UP NORTH via Old North Road.

*Meet: Shell Westgate - End of SH16 and turn left, it will be 300m on your left.

*Time and Date :Sunday 26/06/2005 9:00 for a 9:30 departure.

The route is up Old North Road to Kaukapakapa. From there, probably on to Warkworth or Wellsford. If I can't go up to Wellsford, some of you might want to organise a ride up to Wellsford. We'll see, I might turn off at Warkworth. I have to be back in Auckland by about 12:30. We'll stop at Kaukapakapa and decide then.

I am bringing a newbie, therefore the pace of the ride is slow. So, if you other newbies want to join, more than welcome. Faster riders, if you wish to ride faster, will let you start first and meet up in Kaukapakapa. I will be putting along .. like I always do :)

If any questions, PM me or give me a text 021-899101.

See you guys then.

Few things about the ride:

There are one way bridges on the route, remember to give way if you are required to. Road rules still apply! :D Some of them are around corners, so be careful.

It is a slow ride, so no dangerous overtaking of other riders. I don't want slow riders being overtaken in the same lane by faster riders. Give them some space when overtaking.

Those who are new to riding, don't follow the rider in front too closely. Anticipate that they have to slow down at junctions, one-way bridges etc. Read the post on group riding in the survival section. :D

Hey all

The weather according to the Herald is meant to be "Fine" on Sunday. My partner and I might join you guys on the "Slow" ride, as this will be our first group ride, so slow is good, and my partner is worried about being left behind on her 150, so slow is good :)

We live on the North Shore, so I see the meeting place is in Westgate? Is there anywhere else we can meet you on the way, otherwise we have to ride from North to West then back North again...

v.ros' I know you live on the Shore (I think??) so maybe we could meet up and them meet up with the main group.

I'll be leaving home (glenfield) about 10:45 prob to do the same trip. I'd normally meet them on Old North rd just out of coatesville but i'd have to show you the way. Unless someone can describe it better.

Basically head through albany, jump onto the coatesville highway. Theres a couple of turns though.

Well we live in Birkenhead, so not very far from where you are... So if we can get a confirmation from Feint to meet us at Old North Road that would be sweet.

I think I have a slight idea of where your talking about... do you mean heading up through Albany Village, over Albany Hill and up there somewhere, past the gas station on the left? then turn to head towards Riverhead/Coatesville?

Weather depending of course

Yep, thats correct. Follow that along for 10 mins or so, you'll reach a roundabout in a 60km/h area, turn right, follow road for 3-5 mins and old north road will cross the road you're on. You'll be turning right onto it of course.

anyways.. meeting at westgate. Is this near the westgate mall coz then i know how easy it is to get there...? if no, then could you like give me the name of the road where you are supposedly to meet up...

For the north shore people. The easiest would be to meet at westgate. I suggest the route below.

EXIT "Constellation Drive".
Turn Left on to constellation drive.
Go to the end of constellation drive. Turn left on to Old Albany Highway. Take the next right at the lights on to "Upper Harbour Drive". Follow that till the end (quite a long way) and you will come to Westgate.

Agreed with the route. I'm coming from Greenhithe and it is easiest for everyone to meet up in the one place. The Shell is near the end of the NorthWestern Motorway.

The ride North is a lot straighter (lots of 65 indicated corners) than the ride South (assuming the South ride is the Kaiaua GP?). When I went with these guys it wasn't really group riding, more like regroup riding at the numerous stops. I like this form of riding as everyone rides at exactly their own pace. The fast go ahead, and the slow feel no pressure to ride at an elevated pace. All meet back up at the agreed upon spot. Low stress for everyone. :Punk:

Good on you for choosing Feints ride matey..... the southern ride by Firefight is more suited for faster riders - how fast you ask?? Well how fast can your bike go?? - that fast - but a lot of those riders have a lot of experience and know what they're doing.

Fathers day in NZ is September:

Fathers' Day falls on the first Sunday in September. The celebration of fathers was inspired by attending a Mothers' Day service in 1909 when Mrs John Bruce Dodd wondered why fathers' didn't have a day to pay tribute to them - hence Fathers' Day. In most parts of the Western world Fathers' Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. The date in September, in Australia and New Zealand, is a result of work by the Australian Tie Manufacturers' Association in the 1930s (don't ask me what they had to do with it!).

First couple of real corners and the ol XJ set up soft for commuting had some scarey slides. -Note to self-chasing a 200? gsxr1000 on a 1983 desighned bike just aint gonna happen.
It wasn't till I turned back and did a second and third run that things clicked back into place. It was cool zipping past you lot in the opposite direction.
The ride across to albany was fun with nice open corners and non slippery roads.
It was as usual a pleasure to catch up with you lot I'm sorry if I wasn't being a social rider today
Thanks FEIGHT :Punk: for organising things for us

Good to catch up with a lot of ya, Zed, Feint etc and meet new faces to the circus.
Still really getting to terms with the GSXR, it's a mint bike all round and i can't really fault it, part from the fact i'm still stuck with a stock muffler :oi-grr: needs a little tweaking suspension wise and it'll be the bizzo alright.
2nd time north for me and quite enjoyed it, i normally head for the Coromandel, even thou i live out west :weird:
Once the roads were dry, it was nice for a change to take on a more lesiurely pace and turn it up when i felt like it, a slight misjudgement by me had me thinking i was going to run outta gas, so i backed off for a while, filled up then took the wrong turn and led a few astray, my humble apoligies to you lot, we still found our way in the end.

Anyhow now it's off to work, get shit sorted and rock on home to watch the motogp tonight and then after that watch both SBK races and the Supersport as well as MotoX World champs highlights, then no doubt fail to goto bed and head straight for work in the morning, gonna be a long day tomorrow.

Cheers for the company all and see you all again real soon :Punk:

I've got a great excuse. My car was locked up by Tournament Parking last night and towed this morning. I didn't get home until 11:00am (with a lighter wallet ). Went for a blat out to Kaukapakapa anyway and felt better about things.
It is nice riding with a group. Next weekend Feint?

sounds fuckin awesome. I thought the 636s were too quiet. This fixes that. It's not a stupidly loud sound, it's a nice 'race bike' sound of grunt.. sounds nicer than my bike!!

The weather was just too good to miss this ride today so I promptly jumped out of bed this morning and straight onto the bike to meet the crew at Westgate. Was encouraging to see a good number turn up, about 15+ bikes I think?

I felt that everyone rode at 'their own pace' to Wellsford for brunch, with several short stops on the way to re-group at Kaukapakapa and the Kaipara Lookout. After spending about 30 mins eating and chatting we headed back to Auckland the same way we came up. Was good to get home safe & sound by 12.30 pm for an important engagement.

Highlights:
Blue skiies and dry roads!
Madguitarist on his flash new red Daytona!
Loosebruce on his new Gixxer wheelie machine. :shit: Good catching up with you again Bruce.
Mr Cycletreads on his mighty fast ZX-12R. That reflective shark helmet was cool!

I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, and thanks to Feint for the organisation today, keep up the good work mate! :niceone:

Thanks to Crashe for turning up to see us off! MacD, pity you were only running on 3 cylinders.

The curse of the damp RF struck again. Lost cylinder 2 which runs off the lower output from the right-hand side coil. Usually it clears up once the engine is warm, but not this time. :(

Pulled the tank off, cleaned and dried the coils and associated leads and sure enough #2 fired up again.

I've decided the problem is that there is foam on the inside of the frame, and the coil rests against it. If the foam gets damp/wet then water runs onto the coil, the lowest point of which is where the lead to #2 comes out, shorting it out. The plug chambers were clean and dry.

Took the bike for a test ride up HW16 anyhow this afternoon. Nice weather but it got a bit chilly on the way back!

Hey guys,

Looks like you all had a great ride. Sorry my partner and I couldn't make it...

During Saturdays wonderful weather some cager took it upon herself to ruin our weekend and attepmt to drive right over my partner at a give way.

My partner is ok, a sore and bruised ankle... as for the FXR, it's in the shop (accident happened on K Road), I'm not sure what damage has been done to the bike, when I first spoke to my partner she said the bike was "munted" but she managed to start it up, stuck in 2nd gear and ride it to Red Baron... so I'm hoping it'll be ok and cost too much to fix.

Anyway... once the bike is up and running hopefully we'll be able to make one of the "slow" rides.

Thanks Two Smoker, Sam is doing good, she should be fine to ride again when the bike is fixed. Just waiting for 9am so I can call Red Baron and enquire about the bike... The cager said she'd pay for all the damage (lol I bet she doesn't know how much bikes can cost when it comes to repairs... I'm assuming at the least the back farings, rear light and rear indicators will need to be replaced, it might cost more if there is any damage to the engine as it was stuck in 2nd gear, and there could also be damage to the rear wheel and suspension given the collision point...).

The ZXR we were looking at buying had previous accident damage, so we were bike shopping again anyway... Sam (my partner) is now looking at those ZXR at Red Baron with the purple on them... :)

thanks again :)

ok ok, i lived in queensland for quite some time and one of my work mates was going thru a messy divorce. he bitched and moaned about the lack of sex so much i started teasing him about my wife, who at the time would have had someone hanging out of her 24/7. Hence the name sixpackback, the muscles developed when shagging to much.
