OK this post probably could go somewhere else but Im a bucket racer so here it is.

Has anyone noticed the Hondas kicking the shit out of the competition in preseason testing, seems they have something new over the competition.

Shuhei Nakamoto, HRC: "Obviously HRC is not using anything illegal, but it's true that we have something new on the transmission that currently... allows for faster gear changes. We are not talking about a DCT, but I can't tell you how it works... because I don't know!"

I have been trying to search out information on this system.
It definately seems like Honda have sidestepped the rule disallowing dual clutch transmissions (as with the VFR1200), and either come up with their own version or brough rights to someone elses. from what I can come up with via various websites (taken with a pinch of salt) it looks like the system they are using had potential, on an average of 30 gear shifts a lap, to save about 0.9 seconds (an eternity in racing) which roughly translates to how they are going in Qatar at the mo.

Instantaneous Gearchange System, by Xtrac ( http://www.gizmag.com/xtrac-shows-seamless-gearchange-alternative-to-dual-clutch-transmission/17138/ ) or something similar is another alternative to the zeroshift you posted, same principle.

If anyone else has more info on this let me know cos i find this so interesting!

I think it was blatantly obvious to anyone with eyes that Stoner was pretty fucking crook mate! But he's also the crash when out in the front guy!! Still the fastest guy I've ever seen on a motorcycle.

Will be interesting to see what bearing the Japanese quake disaster has on the racing season in both Moto GP and WSBK. I'd think somewhere along the line it has to have some effect although it's the least of their worries...

Yes, zero surprise there. I was thinking along the lines of research and development for the japanese teams during the season, there may be a shortage of upgrades through out the year. Who knows i guess, depend on which if any plants got severely hit with any of the issues going on over there.

Something clearly wasnt right with him physically last year - but - its obvious hes not as mentally tough as some of his opposition. When everythings going right Stoner is almost unbeatable but it seems too easy for the others to fuck with his head, thats certainly what I saw when Rossi broke him in 2008.

Was the year before last that he was crook mate. And I don't think Stoner is mentally weak at all. Every single one of his past team mates say he's incredibly tough mentally. Don't think you get where he is without being tough. How many times did he get thrown down the road on (by?) the Ducati, yet still keep getting back on the nasty thing and wringing the fucking things neck? I think Spies is one tough cookie too. But I don't think any would be as much as a tough cunt as Mick Doohan.

I was thinking along the lines of research and development for the japanese teams during the season, there may be a shortage of upgrades through out the year.

HRC was unaffected but is subject to power cuts, same for Bridgestone factory.
HRC has stated that there are no supply and support issues at this time but this may change.
What a mess, those reactors must hold together!

HRC ( unless the parts are outsourced to say KR Racing which I doubt) then Hrc is suffering Rolling blackouts , I live in the next town and everything is out , only emergency lighting

So As said unless they transfer tech to say Hamimasu , nowt will be happening

I can check in time , but As I type the house is shaking and the lights are out around tokyo

i imagine its unlikely to have much of an effect on this year as there will be little work (in the big picture) to do for this year outside minor continual development. There could be minor parts supply issues, but 9/10 parts can be made in many places if the need arises, particularly for 1 off machines like in GP racing. But you usually can only design and test parts at one location.

What it could have is a much bigger bearing on next year as they have to design, build, test ect a whole new bike and engine. That would involve countless hours of continuous simulation work, prototyping and development. i would have imagined now would be crunch time for late development before the whole thing would go together say in may or june, for initial track testing

it could be interesting for moto3 too as i know the japanese factories are working on baby bikes too.

Was speaking to one of the test engineers today Hrc is ok , with business as usual Utsunomiya ( about 1 hour by train from Tokyo ) has taken a knock , but that wont effect the racing dept as that is here in Saitama,, HRC and the asakadai dept
