that was so sad to read about that girl in Vanuatu who got bitten.
What really got to me was reading the herald story this morning about how the old man rushed in to the water only to find her in a terminal state. That was the first time I ever shed a tear reading a paper. I guess with a girl of similar age, I can imagine what musta gone through his mind at the sight of his baby. You think You have nightmares... that ain't nothing compared to what this guy's gonna live with every night when the lights go out. My thoughts go out to the family.

Bloody tragic allright. Poor wee thing, I hope she didn't suffer or realise what was happening. Stuff like this never used to bother me like it does now that I have little kids.

It seems she did. Poor kid. Bloody horrifying.
One point made was that you should always check with the locals as to where it's safe to swim.

Funny how they change your outlook. Such a tradgedy for the family, I can only imagine how they must feel.

more people die from coconuts falling on their head than from sharks
the media and the public love a gory shark story
THINK OF THE ISLANDERS GETTING KILLED BY FALLING COCONUTS THEY DONT GET THEIR NAME IN PAPERS AND LIFE STORIES MADE INTO BOOKS AND ARTICLES
anyway, coconuts are more badass than sharks

What are the current statistics for deaths by falling coconuts? In Vanuatu they usually have a vine tied around their legs so they should pull up short and not land on anybody's head.

Cue music... sinister theme on cellos and double-basses...
Cue ominous voice-over:
"Just as you thought it was safe to come out of the water..."
What about the sequel: Coconut II: the Revenge of the Palm-trees...?

Sensetivity people, I came home to find C.B. with a long face.
Turns out the 7 year old was the niece of C.B.'s brother and C.B. knew the kid, kind of gutted her that this real nice and cute kid was now dead, - and was taken right on front of the parents and siblings.
Imagine being at the beach and seeing your kid being grabbed by a shark, being ripped apart and then bleeding to death right on front of you!!!
Not flash eh?
