Have had my bike insured for theft and fire only since buying it a couple of years ago. Was no point paying for full cover as I did not have my full licence. After having first gone for my provisonal licence back in 1978 and for one reason or another never went back to get my full I finally 'did the right thing' and am now riding on my full licence. Time to get full cover now. I have done my homework on insurance companies and what they offer. We have all our other insurances with AMI who have been good to us to date. There seems to be a big difference in premiums between companies. Some as much as $850 and the lowest 'Protecta' at $440. The main providers all somewhere in between. I have read the 'fine print' for the 'Protecta' policy and it seems to cover all the basics and some extras.

My question is, has anyone had dealings with this Protecta Insurance company, good or bad, and have I missed something in their policy for them to have such a low premium. Cheers

Give kiwi bike a ring, you will get best insurance there, which Im sure most kb people will agree with. I am with them and the company that are the insurers are protecta. I haven't had to claim so can't comment on that but I haven't had any problems with them either except for them not telling me that they only allow track days to fully licensed owners. Although I with protecta through kiwibike I am paying 100% less in premium and 600% less excess than what I was with state.

I am with Protecta, and as far as i know, they are 100% owned by Alianz. This is one of germanys bigest and most expencive Incurance companys. But at the same time one of the best. I had a few times to deal with them in Germany. I never had any trouble.
I just can recomend.

I have just put in my first claim to Protecta (Kiwibike are the brokers). Mine is earthquake damage, so will let you know how I get on. Prices etc were very good. Cover itself was very close to Vero's, prices were $600 cheaper though with the main difference being my Protecta policy didn't cover my gear.
I have spoken to Kiwibike, trying to get some information on how the repairs will be handled given the fact that most of the bike shops in Ch-Ch are damaged & closed. I asked them specifically about my damaged tank & more importantly the damaged steering lock (which if I could get it fixed I could at least ride the bike). Unfortunately they said they could not help until they receive my claim (which had been posted the day before). They wouldn't even give me the go ahead to get the steering lock sorted until Protecta had received the claim.

I think the '14 is with Protecta - but I go through Kiwibike.

Protecta have approved my trackday next weekend, so I'm happy with them so far...

:facepalm:If you've never made a claim, how do you know if they're any good? What other service do they provide?

Protecta are a NZ underwriting agency.
They insure through Allianz, which is the world's largest insurer.
From what I hear their claims department is very good.

I have two bikes with them. They gave me the best deal at the time.

I have also had two friends that have binned their bikes while insured with them, and both had no issues.

Are those two prices on the same bike?

On the plus side good rates, the cover includes AA Roadside Assistance, and a mate that had his Harley quite badly damaged when a car went in to the back of him was very pleased with Protecta when they arranged the pickup of the bike and return a few weeks later with everything as new.
On the minus side for a training day on a track I did my excess was increased from $250 to $2500.
Before I renew I will be checking a few other. John Baker and Kiwi Bike in particular.

I'm also with Protecta through Kiwibike, and had no problems with my sole claim, my track day coverage, etc. Good rates too. Excess skyrockets for track days but that's to be expected.

AA Roadside Assistance,

I'm led to believe this is an oxy0-moron. The first A is for AUTOMOBILE :puke:

Insured with Protecta through Kiwibike. Someone posted previously that Protecta won't insure for track days unless you have your full license? I have had no problems having track days covered without my full license through Protecta. All they ask is for you to email the details of the day to them so that they can make sure it's legit.
