Well lucky me got to preride the 2011 Pukemanu Adventure Ride course in the weekend.
Bill Biber and the boys had a few beers and decided a 'dummy' run was in order to make sure the route sheets and other stuff were sorted for the big day on the 26th of March. Apparently I was the first 'dummy' that sprung to mind so I was called to present myself in Martinborough this weekend to give it a go. Lucky me....!!!!:woohoo:
Damn it's a great ride..!!!....I don't know where to start......Saturday dawned overcast and bit drizzly...a perfect test to see what the traction around the course would be like. We headed out after an awesome breakfast and a couple of strong coffees...The ride is advertised as big bike suitable so that's what we rode. Two Ugly..ooopps I mean Vee Strom 1000's, a R1200GS all shod on off roadie type tyres and a brand new 2011 Ducati Multistrada fitted with road tyres:gob::gob:
I can't let on too much but sufficed to say the ride is awesome...There is some reasonably challenging stuff...some cruisy stuff...spectacular scenery...access to properties that would never get onto and you pass by two pubs...!!!!! Oh yeah this is pretty much the perfect adventure ride I reckon.
Checkout the photos...just a wee taste of whats on offer and get your entries in for what will be a great days riding followed by a great night partying.....yeehaa...see ya there....
Oh yeah and all the big bikes got through o.k ...even on road tyres....
A big plug to the Mitas tyres supplied by Robin at LMS...they worked a treat...get yours via the link on the event website...good deal....:yes:

We had entries closing early originally, however due to demand we've had to keep them open - but they can't stay open forever!

Good stuff, fully looking forward to this one as I have done very little riding in that area

While I do like Mitas tyres, particularly the E0-7 rear for general mild adv use, I am slightly unconvinced about that 'good deal' as it is the same price I paid last time I bought one a few months ago
Cheers

Dang, ya gotta watch them E07's, they pretty squiggly on wet seal me found out!!!
I'll never put another Mitas tyre on a bike I own, unless it only does dirt!!!

Are the organisers going to mail out or email the route sheets in advance like 4skins did for the Capital Coast now that you've tested the route?

Both were fitted with E10 Mitas tyres. First time I have used them and I am well impressed. O.K on the road as well...once you get used to 1000cc trying to rip them apart.......

Woohoo Iona emailed me the route sheets so just printed them now. Will load them in the box tomorrow night so that will save me time on Friday. Quite a short lot only 8 A4 pages and 110 instructions. I've been on some rides where there are more like 300.

I had golf at Martinborough early this morning and saw a decent sized turnout of dirt/adv. bikes hanging around the Pukmanu pub at 8am. Silly people, the pub wasn't open yet.
It was bucketing down at 8am but like magic at 8.45am it all cleared for a brilliant day on the golf course.
Some of you fellas should learn to turn your headlight on. I was surprised by a couple of bikes coming at me in the dark and rain. Very hard to see you and the two that surprised me had headlights fitted. Guess they were trying to save power and the environment.
