The Mcleod dude is operating out of one of the apartments that went tits up $$ wise to the tune of 650 large and got wound up by the courts.

Story: when I first went bike hunting I began my search at alibaba http://www.alibaba.com/ because just maybe there was such a thing as a free meal. In fact all I found was 400 thieves.. every one of them proud of their ability to teach westerners lessons about greed. "We were studying the stars while you were still writing on cave walls."

The Chinese have a concept called "guanxi." http://www.kwintessential.co.uk/etiquette/china-guanxi.html If one has "guanxi" with another, one will be quick to do a favour, act on another’s behalf and depending on the depth of the relationship, do anything necessary for the other party. By establishing this type of relationship with someone, the other party is implicitly agreeing also to be available to reciprocate when the need arises.

For this reason it is pretty much hopeless doing business with Chinese over the internet. Now one cannot overlook the fact that China is an emerging force in the world of business. Their prices are to die for and their quality is improving all the time. Especially so when western business people get involved and guide them as to the sort of quality that we require. If only I had that foot into the Chinese market, I thought.

When I bought a Chinese office chair from trademe it broke and the Asian seller was nowhere to be found when it came to back-up. This was insult to injury after all the scammers I had dealt with on alibaba. When I bought my cellphone from Mobicity and the red water mark was showing I was gutted. "Here we go again," I thought. In fact the Chinese seller was totally on the up and came to my aid in a very big way exchanging my "wet one" for a significantly more expensive phone.

The one rat 10 rat rule can be applied positively. If there is only one excellent Chinese trader amongst us there is the potential for 10.. all of which have access to products at prices that we can only dream about. Sure they come to us conditioned by their own market to observe every rule in the book about one-upmanship. That shouldn't stop us from seeing their potential to be very helpful to us. At least while they are in NZ they are accountable. As we have just seen, one negative posting here and it is all over bar the shouting.
