Ok so I own a scooter and was outside an internet cafe on yellow lines. I am goods friends with the owner and he said it's totally cool if I park there. My rego expired on 11th of Feb, and have been waiting for my studylink to sort itself out so I have a bit of money in my pocket to pay for the rego. Incidentally I was at an icafe transferring the funds into my account so I could pay for the rego tomorrow.

They (fat super angry bitch) charged me $200 for "Using a vehicle when not displaying a current license label in the manner required"

Did they really fine me $200 bucks for my rego being out a month?

Does anyone know if I can get let off if I pay my rego tomorrow? Cheers

I understand SOME councils will waive the REG expired portion of any parking ticket they have issued, if it is less than a month past expiry and you can show you have paid it since they bought it to your attention.

Exactly. Get your rego tomorrow and apply to have the fine waived but Feb 11th is long enough ago that they could easily say no - It's not like it expired a week ago or even close to it. However, you might strike it lucky...

As long as the shop owner says you can park there, on the yellow lines, put down by the road controlling authority it's all good, right? I hope you explained that to the meter heifer.

Fuck, you're so stupid. This is more a fine on stupidity than anything else. Talk about going out of your way to draw unwanted attention to your unlicensed bike. Did you throw some flares down on the road too, just in case they didn't notice it? Perhaps put a flag on it and yell through a loud hailer "No current license on this bike! Come and get it!"?

I know .. today has been an interesting one ... but for this one

You got a reg fine only - count yourself lucky you also didn't cop a fine for parking illegally or parking on yellow lines .. which you also guilty of by your own admission :)

I predict this thread will be full of lol in a couple of days (not that it isn't a good read already... MaxPreload was quite funny ) Either that, or in PD.

The factual stuff is already covered, but let me re-iterate in case you didn't see it the first time.

The cafe owner has no ability to control who does, or doesn't park on dotted yellows, way outside his property (and therefore control). I'm surprised you didn't get ticketed for it.

No, they fined you for no current rego. Full stop. Not a month, or a week, or 6 months. It's not current. Another full stop.

By all means, get it up to date tomorrow, write in, see if you get lucky. I also welcome you to put up another thread when they refuse to waive the ticket, ranting at the evil council, as I can always do with more humour in life.

there in is the bit that rankles. When the new rego is obtained it will cover the period they were ticketed for thereby providing an overlap with the ticket. If it had anything to do with safety then I could grudgingly concede but as this is only a tax (several in fact) and they are being paid then the fine should automatically be dropped.

But it's not for not having paid the tax, it's for not displaying that you have paid the tax :Pokey::spanking:

That's even worse then cause they can then ping you because it fell off due to the fact that the fixing they provide for the tag are inadequate for the job.

yeah well luckily I didn't get pinged when the frigging rego fell off otherwise my Mrs would complain if I took one of the parking wardens out. The rego would be the least of my worries. :headbang:

But that's when you write in and tell them your rego is up-to-date and that the sticker fell off but that you've got another one now. Send a photo of it on your bike and they'll waive the fine (not guaranteed in the North Island, South Island, Stewart or other islands). You'll have to invite your Mrs along to dinner as well

Interesting tho, the display thing, cos the cops don't give a rats arse about it. I have been pulled over 4 times in the last 2 or 3 years and only once have I been asked for my rego and I had to remove my seat to show them. The cop was then happy I had a rego and nothing was said. If your bike is currently registered at the time you are issued a failing to display, and you prove it, surely the ticket would be cancelled?
Very seldom park in town tho so for me not really an issue, but I am sure this must happen a lot. Mate of mine got one cos the warden didn't see it and it was on display on the swingarm or screen or something. But is an uneccessary hassle to get the ticket quashed.
